Yes, I've read about Boggio -- involved in California. However, I also found him connected to our main guy back then, Jan Barry CRUMB on an advertisement put in the NYT by the VVAW. He is one of the signers on that ad from 11/19/67: L/Cpl. G. James Boggio, USMC (& note he was quite active in getting propaganda out to the marines in Calif.-- from previous post link info.). This ad containing Boggio & Crumb signatures is in the FBI files, S.01, p.28.

Yea!

So, I'll do this from memory: Maybe it was like this:
from stuff we've already discovered over the months: ( Saw some speculation similar to this somewhere, apologies )

JFKerry idolizes JFKennedy. Kennedy was PT Boat Captain.
JFKerry wanted to be President from college days.
Kerry had to hit N Reserves to avoid draft
Kerry discovers Swiftboats, doing coastal patrols just like hero, except different boat.
Kerry applies for Swiftboats, and gets it.
Goes to SB school July 68.
Navy changes SB mission to 'in-country' waterways.
    Now I'm writing fiction?
Kerry says "oops, I've been had..they are shooting 'in country'.
    Hears about (GI)-VVAW
    Hangs out w/Boggio et.al
Late reporting to 'Nam 4 days leave charged.
"Circumstances" give him a chance to get back early.
He takes the opportunity.

Getting back in Country, He continues exploring the VVAW, Betcha through sister Peggy, if not previous connections, and from "Oct ?" 69 makes a meteoric rise in the VVAW from the time he starts flying Walinsky around. Sister gets credit for introducing them, but with his Kennedy connection (Walinski was RFK speechwriter) how much would you bet that is cover...that the speculation by NavyChief re: July et.al. is true.

Any inquiring mind would sense that Kerry/Walinski/VVAW /et.al had older roots than October 1969...otherwise, we would have to believe that Kerry had no clue what Peggy was up to....and no contact, and no discussion. More smoke screen.

Kerry had the contacts to make money to fund VVAW...Kate has some research posted on her sticky elsewhere... 50 grand just before Dewey Canyon II...

FAA flight plans loged for the time from New O. to "coba", ?would he

as a good lier, even file a flight plan to the "real " place, do one

to say Can Coon and then out in Gulp, turn "left" like he always does.

Or we may find out this is when he got so good at "wind surfing"

Someone earlier mentioned that they sent a message to Frontpage - good site - and Mr. Horowitz.

FYI - started a Google search of their website using "1969 AND Cuba" which came back with 107 hits. In starting to go through, found this:

Quote:
In 1971, while John Kerry, speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stated, “we cannot fight Communism all over the world… There is no threat. The Communists are not about to take over our McDonald hamburger stands,” members of the Weather Underground were planning to bomb American buildings in the name of their Communist cause. Three decades later, and the Weather Underground is still threatening the U.S., and the Communist-apologist, John Kerry, is curiously running for President.

Above doesn't assist with Mr. Chief's efforts, but I wanted to mention the search capability on Frontpage's website. Hopefully, others can try different search Keywords.

Some that took trip:

One month after the S.D.S. convention, (From June 18 to the 22nd, 1969), a delegation of weathermen including Bernardine Dohrn, Teddy Gold, and Diana Oughton traveled to Cuba with a delegation of other American anti war activists…

Has anyone else realized that this is the first presidential election in decades where the communist party has not put a candidate up for election? Why? Because the communists are backing John Kerry. John Kerry is the communist candidate in drag.

I have the Collier/Horowitz book Destructive Generation, Second Thoughts about the ‘60s—great read BTW.

They weren’t shy about naming names but, unfortunately, Kerry’s wasn't one of them. The Cuba trips are in there. The 1969 trip is mentioned on pp 82-83. They put Gerry Long, Diana Oughton and Bernadine Dohrn there, with passage paid by the Weather Bureau. Dohrn, a radical NY attorney, became a hero over there and was introduced to all kinds of Third World dignitaries. “Others” were also mentioned as being on the trip.

They met with a Vietnamese delegation led by Huyn Va Ba of the Provisional Revolutionary Government. Huyn told them “The war is entering its final phase. You must begin to wage armed struggle as soon as possible to become the vanguard and take leadership of the revolution” The “Americans” were given rings forged from salvaged metal stripped off American fighter aircraft.

Just a couple more data points.

Kurt

PS Horowitz was a fellow traveler and has the skinny on LOTS of radicals. I’m SURE he’d be yelling from the highest rooftops if he had first hand knowledge of The Poodle being in Cuba.

Found while blogging:

Quote:
Bernadette Dohrn, a leader of the Weather Underground, was one of the people interviewed for the film. She said, in retrospect, “I cherished my hate as a badge of moral superiority” -- an interesting comment in the face of last week’s discussion. Mark Rudd, who was a student leader at Columbia and later of the WU, expresses his mixed feelings very well – “guilt and shame, along with awareness that I didn’t know then, and still don’t know, what to do in the face of the injustice and enormous violence done by the U.S. government”.

By the way, it's Bernadette Dohrn (not Bernadine) who is not associated with the Weather Underground.

I'm afraid that my search of Frontpage Magazine's website turned up nothing specific about 7/4 - 7/27/69. I hope that "I B Squidly"'s request to Frontpage turns up something.

As much as I thought I knew a good deal about some of the players and happenings back then, my little bit of research taught me more than I was probably expecting - some scary stuff, some of these people / actions.

I wanted share some organization info. that I tried to take further, but ran into dead ends without the specific info. that Chief is looking for. Venceremos Bridgade is a group that was founded and first visited Cuba in July of 1969. It seems that they have been going back yearly ever since, which complicates getting information on the Web because of news reports

The group's founding is interesting though, since they seem to have been started with the goal of being able to "train" folks over here with Revolutionary tactics. What is of most interest, and I couldn't find out more with the time I spent, was a group started at about the same time called, "Venceremos". I couldn't find out anything else other than they were "disbanded" in 1974. They appear to have had VERY radical roots, but it is unclear whether this is the same group or completely different from "Venceremos Brigade".

My intent in posting this is hoping that this little bit may help someone put some pieces together. There's a connection to all of these folks!

Horowitz's book says Bernadine, and there are many Google hits for her name and Weather Underground. Here is Bernadine Dohrn September,
1969.

Apparently they made their own documentary and stared in it themselves.

http://www.haro-online.com/movies/weather_underground.html

Could be Bernadette and Bernadine were used interchangeably??? Don’t really care either way.
