If I were a speech writer for the President I'd get him to quote this from Teddy Roosevelt, 1910, from a lecture on citizenship at the Sorbonne in Paris:

The Man in the Arena
"It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who, at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."



It's pretty obvious who the "critic" is today -- John Kerry just sits in the corner, waiting for something to wrong so he can point his finger and say "I can do better." Meanwhile he's never proven he can run anything, much less the USA, never proven he can command the respect of our soldiers / sailors / airmen, or our enemies, for that matter.

George Bush of course is the man in the arena, bloody but still standing, and (the Lord willing) on his way to victory.

My thanks to all of you on this website, which I've been reading since August. It has helped us keep on things from Johannesburg. If it's any consolation, the news media is even worse over here, and monolithic -- there is basically no alternative to Reuters and worse.
