Hello.
I'm a vet... USN, 1961-1967, and USCG, 1967-87.
Served with CG Squadron Three under the OPCON of CTF 115 in 1970.
I ran some MEDCAPS in An Xuyen province out of Song Ong Doc. This was a year after Lt. Kerry was gone.
I never noticed any evidence of the "atrocities" he testified about, and never heard any "stories" about them. I'd think a MEDCAP team might have seen or heard something about that sort of thing.
Bad things do happen in war, but for him to say they were a matter of policy was entirely over the top.
I believe Mr. Kerry is untrustworthy. I could never vote for him.

Welcome aboard from a Marine. Batten down the hatches it is a rough ride but worth it. We are at General quarters most of the time but we will win this war. Kerry has to go!!!! Semper Fi.

Welcome Dave from an Army guy. I was in I Corps in '70-'71.
My uncle was a twenty year Navy man enlisting on his seventeenth birthday. Toward the end of his career he pulled three one year tours in Da Nang and then six months in Saigon. He would do a tour, come home for thirty days and then go back for another tour.
He was full on Navy. In the early seventies he was married at the base chapel in San Diego and had his wedding reception at the Acey Deucey club.
Since he was only thirty seven when he retired, he did the next twenty three years as a civilian at the San Diego facility. He now lives with his wife in Chula Vista. |

Thanks for the welcome, folks. I'll probably stay fairly quiet... if I find anything that looks interesting, I'll post it or provide a link.
I got weary of the flame-wars on some of the other Internet boards... I'm not here for that.
Our family is military. My brother is Army (ret), Vietnam 69-70 with the 11thACR and 1stCav. My daughter is a SSgt USAR, she recently finished a 14 month call-up. My son is a PO2, USNR (IRR). My father was Army, WW2 (Europe with the 70th Inf Div), and Korea with the 27th Inf Reg Wolfhounds (he was KIA 27 Nov '50 at the battle of the Chongchon River); and my late father-in-law was USMC, 3rd MARDIV, WW2 (Pacific), WIA on Guam. The only Service not represented in our family is the USAF. I have a grandson, so who knows, maybe we can get the AF represented in the future.

Ah Doug, despite our differences of opinion regarding the not so revered senator from Mass, you are truely one of the bunch.
I lack the connectivity of having served with all you most honorable Viet vets and due to the nature of what I did for half my career I rarely run into a coastie that I can compare notes with. I have a hunch Dadesid was a brown shoe so I seriously doubt our paths crossed unless it was peripherally. No matter, we did happen to be in the same branch and that feels good.

No, I was a surface skimmer, ping jockey and mustang. Tin Can and WHECs. |

mustang = enlisted that went officer, ldo or cwo
WHECs = This I will admit to not knowing.

WTG Dadesid and my sincerest appologies on calling you a brown shoe.
xquid: WHEC - High Endurance Cutter. The larger cutters in the CG fleet, also known as the 327's and 378's (their length). I doubt there are any 327's left - they would be about 70 years old by now.
