I've been thinking about the Iraq war and Kerry's potential role as Commander In Chief. Kerry, like most of the Democratic Party are treating the War on Terror the same as they did the Cold War. They simply do not think that we are capable of winning it. They are more comfortable with the terrorists hitting us and then we respond in a limited fashon, lest we provoke a more serious attack. This appeasing and short-term thinking was how we dealt with the USSR.
Last month we were given a history lesson on how Ronald Reagen did not believe in that way of thinking. Unlike the Democrats, the peaceniks, France and lots of Free Europe, Reagan knew we could defeat the USSR if we attacked the weak points in their political structure. He did and the USSR fell.
Islamic fundimentalist states and terrorists can exist only where knowledge and the free exchange of ideas are repressed. A free society always has a better standard of living that a despotic one and Bush knows the only way to put an end to terrorism is to hit them where they live. After all it is hard to convince a content Muslim to sacrifice his life for Allah. Bush has learned Reagan's lesson and is not afraid to confront our enemies and defeat them.
Kerry, on the otherhand, is more interested in the posession of power than in the wise execution of it. Every NCO or officer I've talked to felt a responsiblity to the troops they left behind when rotated out. Kerry, it seems, felt a resposiblity to promote himself in order to futher his political career than remain true to his shipmates. |

Scotty, well said and most astute. I had not thought of it in those terms, now I do. |
