| SBD, a couple of questions: I have heard JPII was born during an eclipse, but you listed 05.08.20 as his birthdate. I assume you simply made a typo because his birthdate is 05.18.20. I have tried to find via NASA websites if there indeed was an eclipse that day but so far cannot. Also, could the "olive" reference perhaps mean Spain or Portugal, well known producers of olives? Just a thought. Further, when I was in Rome during the Jubilee Year of 2000, we toured an important Church (forgot name!) where the walls are decorated with paintings of every Pope since Peter. Our guide pointed out that only three spots remain unfilled, one for JPII on his death and the final two popes after which the current World will end. As we know from scripture and our Creed, its "world without end". Current meaning before the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. |

I hope Carter doesn't find out about this, he might start crying about being snubbed from observing the Election. 
Can you believe the nerve of these people making a fuss about Carter not being invited. Maybe if Carter would have gone to the last Pope's funeral that he was invited to would have helped his case. On the other hand, sending his mother in his place was the biggest snub the former President could have done.
Hey Carter, next time show some respect and "maybe" someone might respect you!!

You are right. When I was a kid (pre JP II) your church was largely irrelevant. That is not the case now. The Catholic Church, despite its failings in some cases in America (the priest scandals), is today a force for good and moral truth in the world.
I think/hope his funeral was a testament to his legacy. Imagine the leader of Israel and the leader of Syria shaking hands. Maybe I just imagined that bit of news. I caught it in a few seconds on the radio between commercials. I haven't had time to decompress and look through the news sites today.
My wife and I both commented on his simple casket. One of the most powerful men in the last 100 years and he didn't want something ostentatious. This pope was a class act all the way.
God bless your church, and please God guide the cardinals as they select the next Pope. Even if you don't follow that faith you have to admire PJP II.

I posted this a few days ago on a post titled Political Soccer which we would never see on our news here in the US. What you probably heard was true, things are definately changing in the Middle East thanks to leaders like Pope John Paul II and President Bush.

Well the Pope's funeral is over and all the politicians who showed up for the hottest ticket in town, can now go back to hating each other and planning man's global destruction anew.
They will forget the sunny day in Rome and the lessons of love, friendship or peace John Paul II passed to them even in death.
