He lied so he could stay in office and keep his agenda of peace going. That was his crime. He was a peacemaker and he wanted to make a world where there was a generation of peace. And he succeeded.
That is his legacy. He was a peacemaker. He was a lying, conniving, covering up peacemaker. He was not a lying, conniving drug addict like JFK, a lying, conniving war starter like LBJ, a lying, conniving seducer like Clinton -- a lying, conniving peacemaker. That is Nixon's kharma.
When his enemies brought him down, and they had been laying for him since he proved that Alger Hiss was a traitor, since Alger Hiss was their fair-haired boy, this is what they bought for themselves in the Kharma Supermarket that is life:
1.) The defeat of the South Vietnamese government with decades of death and hardship for the people of Vietnam.
2.) The assumption of power in Cambodia by the bloodiest government of all time, the Khmer Rouge, who killed a third of their own people, often by making children beat their own parents to death. No one doubts RN would never have let this happen.
So, this is the great boast of the enemies of Richard Nixon, including Mark Felt: they made the conditions necessary for the Cambodian genocide. If there is such a thing as kharma, if there is such a thing as justice in this life of the next, Mark Felt has bought himself the worst future of any man on this earth. And Bob Woodward is right behind him, with Ben Bradlee bringing up the rear. Out of their smug arrogance and contempt, they hatched the worst nightmare imaginable: genocide. I hope they are happy now -- because their future looks pretty bleak to me. |

The Khmer Rouge were a tribal people (Khmer Tribe) who happened to wear red scarves, thus the people came to call them the Red Khmers (Khmer Rouge). Rouge is the French word for red and Indo-China was part of Frances Empire, prior to their departure and America's subsequent entry to clean up their mess. The Khmer tribe occupied the lowest rung of the socio-economic rung within Cambodia. They were illiterate and highly impressionable to the proletariat mind control Marxists utilize.
As for what constituted a government in Cambodia during Pol Pots reign is a bit stretching. There really wasn't a government in place unless you call the 'Center' a government. Once Phon Phem fell Pol Pot issued a 10 point directive from the Center which directed all the region leaders how the country would function. The Center was basically where-ever Pol Pot laid down his thatch. And lay down a thatch was precisely what Pol Pot did. He was a true believer in the communist utopia taught by his French mentors. He lived the dream for sure. Pol Pots political party was called the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK) and the country renamed from Cambodia to Democratic Kampuchea (DK).
If I were to give a current day example to draw comparison to the Khmer within our own country it would be the college student. The typical college freshman comes from a middle class family who lives in a cocoon and enjoys a very comfortable lifestyle which does not give rise to exceptionalism. This student has been given no critical thinking skills through the primary school system. The NEA long ago did away with the Socratic teaching model where-by you arrive at the answer by asking the question. To enter college and be met by Marxist sycophants who then embark on a rigorous indoctrination is criminal. The student has no critical thinking skills or knowledge to make a challenge. Not long after entry the Pol Pots of our secondary educational system have their Khmer student brains soaked with their Marxist Utopian dream.
