SunSentinel
Quote: | TAMPA -- Terri Schiavo's husband buried her cremated remains in a Clearwater cemetery Monday, inscribing on her bronze grave marker that ``I kept my promise.''
Michael Schiavo, who had said he promised his wife he would not keep her alive artificially and waged a long legal battle to remove her feeding tube, also listed Feb. 25, 1990, as the date she ``Departed this Earth.'' That was the day she collapsed and fell into what most doctors said was an irreversible vegetative state.
She actually died last March 31, nearly two weeks after her feeding tube was removed by court order.
David Gibbs, an attorney for the woman's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, said inscribing the marker that way was a nasty political statement by Michael Schiavo, who held the service and burial Monday before telling her family.
``Obviously, that's a real shot and another unkind act toward a grieving mom and dad,'' Gibbs said.
After earlier announcing plans to bury his wife's ashes in their native Pennsylvania, Michael Schiavo instead interred them at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, near Tampa, his attorney, George Felos, said in a short news release Monday.
The severely brain damaged woman died after a bitter, internationally watched fight between her husband and parents over whether she should be kept alive with artificial feedings. The seven-year conflict engulfed the courts, Congress, the White House and divided the country.
She was cremated two days after her death and Michael Schiavo was given possession of her ashes.
Felos did not say in the statement why Michael Schiavo decided to keep his wife's remains in Florida. He did not return a phone call seeking additional information.
``We're hopeful that there was some effort here to show some kindness'' to the Schindlers, Gibbs said of the decision to bury her in Florida.
A service at the cemetery was officiated by a priest, the statement said. Michael Schiavo and at least one his brothers attended.
``Mrs. Schiavo's parents, as ordered by the court, have been advised of the exact location of Mrs. Schiavo's site,'' Felos' statement said.
Gibbs said Felos notified his office via fax later Monday afternoon, after the service. The Schindlers had already starting getting calls from reporters about it when his office called to tell them, Gibbs said.
``We were not notified (in advance) in any respect of any service or any memorial, and clearly that's sad for the family,'' Gibbs said.
A pond and fountain also mark the woman's grave site, which was festooned with flowers Monday evening. The flat bronze marker lists Terri Schiavo's birthdate, Dec. 3, 1963 and says she ``departed this earth'' on Feb. 25, 1990, and was ``at peace'' on March 31, 2005.
Inscribed at the bottom is, ``I kept my promise.''

I'd hate to hear what his "real" promise was to her.

He built a political defense into her grave marker?
What a miserable, low-life piece of scum he is. Does his cruelty know NO bounds?

I agree, EJ.
Can you imagine her parents visiting her gravesite. That inscription is
a continuing KNIFE THROUGH THE HEART to them.
How self-serving, basicly saying I won, you lost.
Such an evil, heartless act toward the Schindlers. _________________ “I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” (Thomas Paine, 1776) |

Unbelievably, we got into another heated discussion about the Schiavo
case in my Sunday School class last Sunday. Someone brought up a
report made in early service about a recent church conference and she
mentioned that some of the items under discussion were "political". I
replied that abortion and homosexuality are also moral issues and that
it is appropriate that the church take a stand on such things. That was
when my very liberal (but good) friend said that the Republicans were
going to be sorry for their role in the Schiavo case. They will never
see that the attempt at intervention by the Republicans was for moral,
not political, reasons. I will always be proud that my party decided to "err
on the side of life" which will hopefully lead to a different result in other
cases where the patient's wishes were NOT known or where there is a
difference of opinion among close family members. Had the HINO been
someone other than Michael Schiavo, had his lawyer been other than
"death-obsessed" George Felos, or had the judge been other than the
"dishonorable" Judge Greer, Terry would still be alive and would most
likely be in the tender care of her parents.
I think of Terry often and am comforted by two things when I do. First,
Terry is resting in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. Second, her
husband will not be able to escape what awaits him when his own day
of judgement comes.
BTW, I saw on another blog today that the Congress recently passed
another "special case" law that applies to only one situation - something
concerning a military family. I'm sure I would have approved of that
law as well. What is interesting is that there has been almost no
mention of it by the MSM, certainly no condemnation of Congress for
wasting its time on passing a law that applies only to one family. Yet
another example of the bias that they do not even bother to try to hide. _________________ Susan R. Morton |

Michael Schiavo's hell is right here on earth.
Not to change the subject a little, but did y'all read what Dr. Mean said last night at a Democratic fund-raiser...
``They say they want small government, but their government is just big enough to fit inside Terri Schiavo's bed in the nursing home,'' Dean said.

He exhibits sociopathetic actions. He clearly has zero care for any of the family who nurtured her into the world and are in mourning over her passing. Because he has no conscience he is unable to register the reaction people would have to a marker such as this. His intellect and pathology(Ted Bundy would know better then to place this marker) could hardly grasp the revulsion this would cause to normal people. _________________ "An activist is the person who cleans up the water, not the one claiming its dirty."
