The east coast prices average 3.13 -3.60! I paid $54 to fill up my car the other day and almost got ill.

I paid 305 for a lousy gallon of gas for my mower, I'm going to see if I can find an early 80's VW deisel pick-up. A friend has one and it gets 45-50 mpg.I got an old ford 3/4 ton with saddle tanks, if I filled it up it would cost over 180 smackers! and to make matters worse it would only go about 150 miles before you need to do it again......Yippee Wink

I remember back in 72 when we had local gas wars and gas was 12.9, pumped by young ladies in bright yellow bikinis at a local station. I never filled up, just a bucks worth every day so I could get my windows washed!!!!! Oh the good ole days.

Here in Liberal Land (Minesota) its at 2.43 right now and my son says it is down to 2.29 in his town about 30 miles north of Mpls. Hope it keeps dropping

I've used gasohol here in Illinois for the last 20 years or so in all of
my cars. It works very well in the cold weather. It keeps the gas
tank cleaned out of water which makes adding gas tank de-icer
unnecessary in the winter.

When I first got here, Illinois didn't have gasohol in the stations, but
Iowa had a lot of stations that carried it. I was running the Motor pool
at Navy Recruiting District Peoria. The problem was that we inherited
a bunch of older cars from Illinois and Wisconsin that had been run for
years on straight gas. So when an Illinois car went over to say, Des
Moines for something or other and got a couple of tanks of gasohol, the
alchohol would act as a solvent and clean the crud out of the gas tank.
I got a lot of dead cars as a result of clogged fuel filters. I used to
preach getting a couple of spare filters if you were going to drive to
Iowa in an Illinois car.

Ethanol is required in all gas in Minnesota at a 10% level and they are going to raise it to 20%. You can buy premium without it only for small engines, boats and snowmobles and collector cars only. The problem with ethanol is it is very expensive to produce so it is government subsidized, which only helps one group - the farmers. I have a freind that farms some corn, the government pays him a bonus to use his crop for ethanol so it goes to the local plant where he also owns shares as most local farmers do, where the government subsidizes the process so he can get a big dividend every year. I have heard that it actually take more electric power to produce a gallon of ethanol than the power you get from it, as it is less powerful than gas. Therer is even e-85 for specially equipped cars that can run on 85% ethanol, but it is higher than gas right now. The idea of ethanol is great, but lets let private industry do the investing rather than making it another welfare program for the farmers. Personally I like my corn squeezins to be aged in oak barrels and come in brown bottles.

Gasahol, ethanol is both cheaper and has higher octane rating in Iowa. Seems to not be good for two cycle engines over a period of time. Then again, me and two cycle engines don't seem to get along too well anyway.

Problem with two cycle engines is oil does not mix well with it because it absorbs water. I only use the premium no alcohol stuff for my boat and small engines that are 2 cycle.
