Nancy Pelosi: I Was Briefed on NSA Program

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi confessed late Saturday that she signed off on President Bush's decision to have a top intelligence agency conduct "unspecified activities" to gather intelligence on possible terrorists operating inside the U.S. in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

"I was advised of President Bush's decision to provide authority to the National Security Agency to conduct unspecified activities shortly after he made it and have been provided with updates on several occasions," Pelosi admitted.

The San Francisco Democrat claimed she expressed "strong concerns" about the "unspecified activities" at the time, but offered no evidence to that effect.

Pelosi declined to explain why she didn't make public her concerns about the authorization, which Democrats now say was an outrageous abuse of civil rights.

Instead, Pelosi admitted keeping silent about the "unspecified activities" even though she now believes they may have been illegal, saying Bush's acknowledgment of the NSA program on Saturday "raises serious questions as to what the activities were and whether the activities were lawful."

On Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid also admitted he kept silent about the controversial program, even though he was briefed on its existence "a couple of months ago."

Still, he insisted that it made no difference that Democratic congressional leaders knew about the NSA program, telling Fox News Sunday: "This is something that's [the responsibility of] the president and the vice president and there's no way he can pass the buck."

Let me translate what Dingy Harry and Stretch Pelosi mean. "I didn't think there was any political ammunition here, so it didn't matter then. Now it does, since we might be able to demogogue it to our advantage."

Both of them are full of Bovine Fecal Material.

"briefed a couple months ago"
now does that mean that was his 1st briefing, or his most recent briefing? Inquiring minds...

If you missed it, here's a videoof Chris Wallace trying to pin him down on FOX. Reid was more than a tad defensive as he repeatedly tried to evade answering. Wink

Other entertaining bits from the Dingy interview include his forced attempts to smile. The unusual smiles ended quickly when his lips started to crack. Poor guy; must have been painful. Crying or Very sad

Wallace played a tape of a Democrat gathering held after the Patriot Act renewal was filibustered to a standstill. With attentive and appreciative looks from Durbin and other admirers, Dingy said, "Twenty minutes ago, we killed the Patriot Act." The room erupted in applause. That should make a great bite for Republicans to use in the runup to '06, especially if we suffer another homeland attack.

Wallace also confronted Dingy with data showing he had accepted $66,000 from Jack Abramoff, currently under investigation. Was Dingy going to return it? Dingy sputtered, looking like Bambi in the headlights, and vehemently denied that he had ever taken money from Abramoff. Wallace is a pretty careful journalist. This should come back to bite Dingy. We'll see.

Dingy Harry has also commented that this is the most corrupt Congress in history. Is he referring to himself as in morally corrupt or has he forgotten the political bloodbath of '94 that was a result of the Congressional post office scandal etc. or Fort Worthless Jim's money laundering (the real stuff)?? Harry, you Are a dud.

Another gem from Dingy. This one emerged this morning after Senate and House negotiators worked all night to come up with a compromise spending bill which included $42 billion in reduced growth (not cuts) in certain programs and, incidentally, authorization to drill in ANWR. Reid is furious and pledges to filibuster everything in sight. His remark:

"We've become like the House of Commons. Whoever has the most votes wins. It hasn't worked that way in 216 years."

Oh, really? Rolling Eyes

Hey Harry, You lose. That's how it works. If you can't handle that, it's time to go back to Searchlight and sit on a bench on your porch.
