Sen. John Kerry: N.Y.C., Boston Gone by 2036

Failed presidential candidate John Kerry offered a startling prediction Friday morning: If the U.S. doesn't change its global warming ways, New York City and Boston will be destroyed due to flooding by 2036.

"I can say to an absolute certainty," Kerry told radio host Don Imus, "that if things stay exactly as they are today absent some unpredictable change in what's going on, within the next 30 years the Arctic ice sheet is gone.

"Not maybe, not if - the Arctic ice sheet is gone," the Massachusetts Democrat insisted, before offering his hair-raising prediction.

"Already you have the Greenland ice sheet beginning to melt ... If that melts, you have a level of sea level increase that wipes out Boston Harbor, New York Harbor - I mean, it's just stunning what we're looking at."

Kerry blamed the Bush administration's environmental policies for the coming destruction of New York and Boston.

"Europe and the other countries are responding," he told Imus. "The United States remains oblivious - at least the administration remains oblivious."

Despite the dire warning, Kerry hasn't done much to change his own global warming ways.

At last report, he and his wife still owned several SUVs, a gas guzzling yacht, five BTU gobbling homes and a private jet.

Like fellow environmentalist RFK, Jr., Kerry continues to withold his support for the proposed construction of a wind farm in the waters off Nantucket, where he and his wife ow

n a mansion.

I think it would be more accurate to say:

Sen. John Kerry Gone by 2036

If Kerry were somehow to be convinced that the true cause of atmospheric warming was increased energy output from the Sun (which it is and could reverse any time) he would find a way to blame Bush for turning up the Sun's thermostat.

Of course, he will never be convinced. In his fantasy world the US is solely responsible for his loss of a place to ski.

There must be some sort of mental exam established for potential national office candidates. Rolling Eyes

This is the same guy whose memory was seared that he was in Cambodia on Christmas Eve in 68.

The only thing seared is his memory and mind. Maybe scorched is a better word.

He really ought to leave the whacky tobaccy alone. The few oars he did have in the water are floating away.

New York and Boston gone? May it be so.......but then again we do need places to which all the lunacy can gravitate, leaving the rest of the country just a little more sane. (How did we end up with Madison?)

I once heard the stat that 85% of the US population lives within a 100 miles of an ocean. We in the interior wasteland think that's just fine.

Not to worry, we would still have San Francisco, Portland, Oregon, Seattle and other such looney left, tree hugging, socialist meccas.

As for J 'f'in K, Rolling Eyes

edited to add Kerry's latest email;

Quote:
Dear Lew,

It didn't take long. Despite the stunning defeat we dealt them just a few months ago, proponents of drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are at it again.

Because when they can't win the game they just change the rules, now they've inserted language in the Senate budget bill to hand over this precious natural treasure to big oil companies -- even though they know full well that it won't make a dime's worth of difference in making America more energy independent.

Tell your Senators to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and take real action toward achieving energy independence.

As we did last year, Senator Maria Cantwell and I are offering an amendment on the Senate floor to strike the proposal to drill in the Arctic Refuge. The vote could come within the next 24 to 48 hours. So please act now.

But, I'll bet that, like me, you're sick and tired of spending so much time defeating bad ideas in Washington when there are so many good ideas for America that get ignored in this city. So I'm asking you to do more than telling your Senators you want them to vote in favor of the Kerry-Cantwell Amendment. Tell them that you demand the Senate takes real action on an energy plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, bring the skyrocketing costs of energy down, and benefit the environment.

Tell your Senators to save the crown jewel of America's National Wildlife Refuge System and take real action on energy independence.

There are so many real and powerful things the Bush administration and the Republican Congress could do if they were serious about energy and the environment. But, they haven't lifted a finger on any of them.

They're so beholden to the big oil and gas companies that turning over America's most precious natural resources on a fool's errand search for the last drop of oil is all they can think about.

Tell them America won't settle for their pandering and posturing any longer.

Demand real action on energy independence -- and demand it now. And when they try to tell you we have no choice but to drill in the Arctic, tell them you have a better plan.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

P.S. Here are the five cornerstones of my 2020 Energy Plan that Congress should be acting on. When you tell them to vote for the Kerry-Cantwell amendment, tell your Senators to act on one or more of these genuine alternative energy ideas. That's what America needs.

INCENTIVIZING RENEWABLE ENERGY
More than 20 states have implemented market-based Renewable Energy Portfolio programs that require utilities to gradually increase the portion of electricity produced from renewable resources such as wind, biomass, geothermal, and solar energy. We should build on that success at the national level. Tell your Senators to enact a nationwide Renewable Portfolio Standard so that 20% of our energy comes from renewable sources by 2020. A study by the Union of Concerned Scientists found that implementing this policy would save $26.6 billion and that commercial and industrial customers would be the biggest winners.

PROMOTING BIO-ENERGY
We have the ability to transform our transportation sector from one that fuels our addiction to one that drives us toward a sustainable future. The President should build on that demand and fuel new production opportunities by supporting a mandate that agriculture will provide 20% of the total energy consumed in the United States by 2020.

INVESTING IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY
In addition to developing new sources of energy, we must make better use of available energy. New technological advances in appliances, energy grid systems, and buildings can boost productivity, create jobs, improve the reliability and safety of the energy infrastructure, and make dramatic inroads in reducing air pollution. Congress should enact energy efficiency measures to decrease energy use by 20% by 2020.

PROMOTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUPER-EFFICIENT VEHICLES
The government should provide an aggressive set of tax incentives and grants for consumers and for industries that are retooling plants to promote the manufacturing and purchase of hybrid vehicles, which run on a combination of gas and electric power to sharply increase efficiency. Twenty percent of all passenger cars and trucks on the road should be high-efficiency, low emissions hybrids by 2020.

SETTING AMERICA FREE FROM MIDDLE EAST OIL
Today, America spends more than $500,000 per minute on foreign oil or $30 million per hour. We paid more than $42 billion for Persian Gulf imports alone in 2005. It is bad enough that these dollars will not help grow our domestic economy -- it is even worse when you consider their impact on our national security. Congress should act to eliminate America's oil imports from the Middle East by 2020.

To me, his "plan" sounds more like, "someone ought to do something."

Golly, if NYC and Boston are gone, what will the people that manage those ports do, whom ever they are?

Lew,
or is sKerry's 'my' plan just rewording the plan announced in this year's State of the Union address? who was that...oh yeah 'W' himself...Kerry's nemisis, or in JfnK's terms 'the administration'! So now we can add plagiarism to prevaricating, flip-flopping, nay-saying and his host of other party platforms he and kennedy espouse....

If you think more than a few minutes about his prediction:

Quote:
"Already you have the Greenland ice sheet beginning to melt ... If that melts, you have a level of sea level increase that wipes out Boston Harbor, New York Harbor - I mean, it's just stunning what we're looking at."

There's something really strange and very revealing about his prognostication.

Seems to me that there are a lot of American cities (as well as world cities) that sit at sea level. So if the ocean rises because of his theory (his cracked crystal ball), then why wouldn't those other cities - Washington, DC, Norfolk, Charleston, Miami, New Orleans, Houston, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Franciso, Seattle - to name a few, also be affected? Do Boston and NYC get first rights on national disasters?

So what does it tell us about sKerry - his motivation and his outlook - that his comments only focus on Boston and NYC? And this guy pretends to be a US Senator, and wanna-be national leader? And what does that tell you about the reporter who wrote up this story, and the targeted readership, as well?

(The implications that I've tried to point out really bother me, but I can't quite put my finger on exactly why.)

It is strange but it reveals what most northeast politicians feel about what the United States consists of. You can see it in what they say and how the northeast press relates the news.

There is a parochial mindset that feels that anything important in the country exists roughly north of northern Virginia to the Canadian border and takes in eastern Pennsylvania and all of New York. To them, this is where the country was born and is the natural center of gravity of the nation. Everything else is fly-over country and something to be endured for the common-place messy activities like growing food, fiber, etc.

We can have a set of tornadoes that rips up a few towns here in the South, killing several people and all you hear on the New York-based media is how the same weather system is about to affect the northeast when it gets there.

That's just a sample of the northeast elitism that comes through every day in the media.

John Kerry just considers himself to be the center of gravity of a region which considers itself to be the center of gravity of the nation. It's a wonder that he doesn't author a bill to eliminate national voting outside the obviously better informed northeast region.
