Evidently the 7-11 convenience store chain has booted Hugo Chavez's Venezuelan owned CITGO Petroleum Corp. and they will switch to gasoline provided by US companies . Although they publicly say it has nothing to do with Chavez's anti-American statements, I still applaud their decision.

While I appreciate and applaud the sentiment behind this gesture, I'm afraid it is very counter-productive.

There's no shortage of a market for oil. If 7-11, or anyone else choosing to boycott Citgo, decides not to buy what is now known to be Venezuelian crude, Chavez can merely sell it to, e.g., China (or India, or North Korea, or...) In the meantime, because there's now a shorter supply of oil here in America, prices for all of the other suppliers goes up, and everyone pays more. People need to realize that for a boycott to be successful, the entity being boycotted must be very dependent on you and me being the sole, or nearly sole, market for their commodity.

There's gotta be a better way.

But there is a woeful shortage of demonstrations against the blatant anti-America thugs of this world.

7-11, here I come, armed with our most potent weapon...a dollar bill in the hands of an irate American consumer.

I second that! It is shameful!

Let him sell it to China or wherever else he wants. Just not here.
Way to go 7-11.

Just heard on the news this AM that the entire Citgo chain of dealerships is severing its relationship with the Venezuelan supplier and going to other sources for product.

This will have little impact on Chavez, of course, but it is at least an expression of revulsion at his idiocy.

gasoline is usually,

generic gasoline, plus 'Brand Name Company's ''
formula for additives.

are Citgo's additives anything special?

who cares?

And all the years I was hauling gasoline from several tank farms, when you go to load you designate which brand of gasoline you are loading in the computer and it's supposed to add the correct additive from the proper additive tank.
Only problem was, most of the time the additive tanks were empty.
I would venture to say that most of the gasoline bought in the U.S. today has no additives in it at all.

That's good news,
Now, those of us who had stopped buying ANYTHING at 7-11 because they supported Chavez profitting thru CITGO can start spending our money there again soon....anyone know the date of the handoff...or do we just wait for the new Sign to show up?
