This story is related to the original article on Carter and his book.
Quote: | A former U.S. Justice Department official disclosed to Arutz-7 that former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s advocacy extended beyond the Palestinians, when he interceded on behalf of a Nazi SS man. |

GenX
I was fortunate enough to be able to talk Carter smack, 1969 - 1970, in Augusta, GA, when he somehow got elected Governor. The talk then was that he was a 'failure engineer' w/the Navy...so his cheap 3 year Degree with a BS halo may have had an engineering class or two....
As to the Rickover connection...I'm betting that once Rickover found him sniffing around Nuclear classes, the Admiral may very well have said "I don't want him anywhere near one of my submarines"! I'll believe it until I see his 'form 180' and ratings that prove otherwise!
his policy failures legacy (especially in the Mid-East) is well stated on Horowitz' site:
Quote: | ...The fruits of the Iran disaster are still very much with the United States today. If the U.S. would have supported the Shah or his successors, the history of the past 25 years in the Middle East would have been very different, and the Iranian people would have fared much better. Moreover, the Soviet Union would have hesitated greatly over invading Afghanistan in 1979. Carter's timid approach to international conflicts emboldened the USSR to extend its reach further into the Third World. By letting the Soviets know he would not respond if they invaded Afghanistan, Carter spawned a war that ultimately saw one million dead Afghans, five million displaced, and a situation of evil that nurtured the Islamic hatred and militancy that ultimately turned on the West and brought about 9/11.
