I was looking at my fathers DD214 and would like to get duplicate awards for myself and brothers. Can anyone fill me in how I go about doing this? Thank you to all for your devoted service to country. Without you this country would not be what it is today........
note: As this is a bit off topic and a request for some assistance, I'm giving it its own topic/me#1 |

Stee,
Start here:
National Personnel Records Center
I requested my father's records and it seems like it took about two months to get a response. And records from one rather large chunk of time were destroyed in a fire, so you may not get anything at all. I got an "in-lieu-of" certificate of service rather than a discharge certificate, and there were no records of any awards or amplifying information - duty stations and whatnot.
Good luck! _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

Hmmmm...I might just have to put in for my "cold warrior" certificate if only just to get a facsimile of Don Rumsfeld's signature |

RE: The Cold War Certificate. If I'm not mistaken, the facsimile signature of the Secretary of Defense on your certificate will be of the current Secretary.
My certificate is "signed" William Cohen, so I think I've got dibs on having won the Cold War.
RE: duplicate medals. If I'm not mistaken, again, the NPRC will issue a single set of American decorations to a veteran. If the veteran, or someone from the authorized list, hasn't previously requested a set, they'll send a set.
If anyone wants multiple sets, they'll have to buy them from a vender. Companies like Medals of America do a wonderful and reasonable job mounting a veteran's decorations onto a shadow box, and a person can purchase any foreign decorations from them at the same time. |

My hubs just flew him in the last couple of weeks - him and his wife. Hubs was a gooberhead, though - I can't believe he had the chance to tell Donald Rumsfeld how much we appreciate him and he didn't! Men are such weenies about saying important stuff, sometimes! 3x Navy - you t ell 'hubs' if he gets that chance again to telll him
WE LOVE HIM. Gates is a sourpuss.... I miss Rummy.
btw, think I'll check out what I can get about my dad... somewhere I have a few pieces of info on his service. IF there is anything else I'd like to have it. He died in 1996. I never really knew him - was looking for him when we found out he had died.
He was in WWII - I do have a pic of him w/ some other men around a vehicle in what looks like a 'deserty' place. _________________ Stevie
