Looks like Fox News might be accused of journalism in the first degree...

Military officials told Fox News the medal was revoked in 2010 after Navy investigators looked into his record and found administrative errors surrounding how the award was created. Sources said Sanders was responsible for those administrative errors and may have lied.

...and now Taranto (as you might have come to expect and appreciate) has weighed in...

Wade In Deeper
Remember Wade Sanders? He was one of the most vicious and bombastic of John Kerry's "band of brothers," the fellow U.S. Navy vets who supported the haughty, French-looking Massachusetts Democrat who by the way served in Vietnam, and attacked the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in 2004.

In 2008, as we noted that December, Sanders--who had repeatedly referred to George W. Bush and his men as "chicken hawks," slang for a child molester as well as a derisive term for a nonveteran who favors a strong defense--pleaded guilty of possession of child pornography.

Sanders is now in federal prison, but Politico's Ben Smith notes that he's back in the news. The Navy Times, in an article posted here but not on its website, reports:
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus revoked the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest valor award, which was awarded nearly 20 years ago to retired Capt. Wade Sanders of San Diego.

A spokeswoman for Mabus confirmed the secretary's decision, which he made in August 2010 following a review and recommendation by the Navy Department Board of Medals and Decorations. "Mabus signed a memorandum in which he revoked the previously awarded Silver Star," said Capt. Pamela Kunze.

"Had the subsequently determined facts and evidence surrounding both the incident for which the award was made and the processing of the award itself been known to the Secretary of the Navy in 1992, those facts would have prevented the award of the Silver Star," Kunze said.
It seems that this is unrelated to the kid-porn conviction. Rather, Mabus came to the conclusion that Sanders did not deserve the medal in the first place.

The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth disputed whether John Kerry deserved some of his five medals. A large part of Kerry's defense was an appeal to the authority of veterans who supported him--one of whom has now been revealed to have received a medal he doesn't deserve. This doesn't prove the Kerry detractors were right, but it certainly doesn't weaken their case.

Sanders having said that he was "a REAL Swift Boater" might have more truth than realized.

Since the term Swiftboating was made into a pejorative, denoting unsavory, unethical or other improper actions and given his conviction, it seems to fit.

On the other hand, Swift Boat Veterans are an entirely different matter as they served honorably and stood up tall and proud.

Did Sanders unwittingly out himself by linking his conduct to the very pejorative they tried to malign the Swift Boat Vets with? Question Shocked

"Newspaper: Kerry defender stripped of medal", By Glen Johnson, Globe Staff - Boston Globe

Disgusting charges, of course and the media naturally focuses on the child pornography aspects - can't blame them for that.

But it looks like most of these outlets pointedly ignore the fact that the medal was awarded for service MADE UP by the awardee and/or his accomplices.

How often were we fed the line that medals didn't fall out of the sky, that the Navy didn't make mistakes when awarding them and that John F. Kerry couldn't have possibly had a hand in procuring his?

The media never likes to eat their words.
