Sorry for the lack of research on this (I'm going by memory).
For one of his medals, Kerry "stormed the beach" and shot a previously wounded teenager. He was supposed to have a lot of troops with him, then why did HE storm the beach if there was heavy fire? The soldiers were there for that, especially if there were so many other hostiles. Didn't Kerry actually put everyone on board in danger by leaving his post? Who was there to tell the enlisted men to take some particular action? If there really were other hostiles then the boat would have been a sitting duck. Yeah, the kid had a weapon but was running away wounded.
Please correct me if any of this is wrong, but somehow I just don't see the commander of a boat (or ship) running out ahead of the troops on this day, D-Day or any other day. _________________ Home in Lubbock Texas, home of the Vietnam Project at Texas Tech University.
