ANTI –KERRY SIGN SUGGESTIONS

General Suggestions: Always put two different signs on the same stick, mounted back to back and stapled or hot glued together for stability. You can hold up two such signs (with 4 messages) at the same time and show them to a TV camera or passing cars or crowds. If you do a demonstration and the TV cameras show up, always try to keep people with signs in the picture, flipping them every few seconds.

A flip of the wrist changes the signs, the motion attracts and holds attention. (Turn your whole body if the sign is heavy for you.) When you display two or four sign messages in a few seconds as fast as people can read them, you have conveyed much of your larger message. If you have a few people at a demonstration then you can have a lot of different messages displayed. An onlooker can get a lot of information and become convinced just from several really effective signs.

You can have signs made professionally, but neat homemade signs can be more effective. You can make or have made big banner type signs to hang from freeway overpasses. I only have experience making “smaller” signs about 2X3 feet. With large block letters, they are very effective and one reasonably strong person can handle two of them. You can cut this size card in half to approx. 2X11/2 feet and still have a decent sign that a child can handle.

Office or Art supply stores sell suitable large card stock for signs. You can print with the jumbo magic markers or you can use dark paint and ½ to ¾ inch brushes. Wood “sticks” or strips about 2 inches wide and ¼ inch thick work well.

All signs should have www.swiftvets.com ,or other websites on them in small print at the bottom and you will want to have some signs with this on them in large print.

Here are some specific ideas. Imagine these words arranged in two or 3 lines on a sign. Often it helps to print little miniature signs to get a better idea of how it will read and if all the words will fit. NOTE: In some cases alternate or additional word ideas have been put in (parentheses). You can probably come up with even better “spin-off ideas” from these. If you do, please share them. It is vital that we communicate more effectively with the voters.

There are, of course other themes within the scandal the Swift Vets are exposing about Kerry. If you have sign ideas please share them.

The only way to find out for sure whether a sign is effective or not is to TEST IT. Do what the professionals do, simply ask people which of your signs they find the most effective and why? You can also test a sign or a flier by asking family and friends for honest feedback.
Also you can watch people’s faces closely as they read your sign. Do their faces “light up” with glee (or anger) or do they look bored, clueless, confused.

The most important point to make about signs is that we need to be using them. More people could be out there getting this message in front of people. Even getting it on national TV like “hopeful” is doing. Swift Vet supporters should be at all the morning shows like “Today” and “GMA” with signs. Also at Kerry rallies and Bush rallies. Anywhere you have large crowds, TV cameras, heavy – slow speed or stopped traffic. Call your local talk radio show on your cell-phone and invite people to come join you. Call or email or fax your local media. They may send reporters and cameras. Any time I have ever done a demonstration, I have always had casual passersby pick up extra signs and join me.

We need to coordinate and communicate more with the group Protest Warrior who have thousands of activists signed up nationally. PW should be carrying the Swift Vet information and themes. If we want the media to cover this story more and to be more honest about it, then we need to force that coverage by getting out there on the streets, getting in front of cameras, doing demonstrations.

It has been said (probably by an advertising exec.) that “you never go wrong underestimating the intelligence of the average person”. Ever watch “Street Smarts” or “Jaywalking”? That does not mean it is impossible to get your point across. It means you need to operate in the real world in order to be successful. It means you need to use words and sentences that work with your audience. It means you often need to put you own ego aside and change something if it isn’t working. The demo_rats often win, when they shouldn’t because they communicate better.

Saying he is a liar is the point that needs to be pounded. Again just like they did Bush Sr. Remember "worst economy in 50 years" or " it's the economy stupid". Yeah, just keep saying "KERRY IS A LIAR" over and over and over.
