Quick comments on bits of the show:

Who was that guy he had on from the VVAW? Was going on and on about US policy and how right Kerry was (stood with him back then and still now) and that 3 million Vietnamese died, and "how do we think they died?" (no answer, but he let the comment hang there -- implying it was all our doing?? -- maybe I misinterpreted his phrasing?). That our policy involved "free fire zones" and Alan chimed in that that was our gov't policy and what a disgrace -- and the implication from that phrase is that: here's the zone, now shoot everything in sight! And Kerry seems to say that simply BEING in a free fire zone, means that you are intent on killing everything that moves and that is what everyone did... [That's what he said/implied in his '71 testimony that I listened to tonight. Didn't sound to me like he was just talking about the "150 testifying vets" but that he was speaking about all vets.]

This VVAW guy tonight was supporting and repeating and DEFENDING what Kerry had said in his '71 testimony about the fire zones & etc., yet, it is my understanding that men in a free fire zone are still responsible for making ethical decisions within that zone, and that in general, that is exactly what they did! Too bad O'Neill or Ollie weren't there to counter this man. Sean did mention it though.

When Sean asked him about the upsidedown American flag on the cover of Kerry's book he just sort of waved if off saying it was a universal (?) sign of distress or danger (can't recall his actual words) .. I took his meaning to be that it symbolized America in danger of some kind, under stress... I guess I'm not up on my symbols, but to me in my simple way, when I see that, it is a sign of disrespect, a sign of condemnation. Maybe if I was an intellectual I'd catch the deeper nuances of the cover of that book.... (Following his reasoning, when we see the American flag upsidedown or burning in streets around the world, these people are only trying to convey to us that they understand we are in trouble and stressed out??)

The guy gave me the creeps..... He argued with Sean that Kerry never ever said that he, personally, committed atrocities. Sean wanted to bet $1,000 and then up to $100,000 that he had a tape with Kerry saying that, and the guy argued to the bitter end that Sean was lying and ended up betting a case of beer. ..??

This guy appears to still be a believer in "their cause" from the 70s... I was seeing red while I listened, so maybe I didn't hear as clearly as I should. He said/ or implied that JK doesn't need to apologize to anybody --He does remain a friend of Kerry's. Makes you wonder if Kerry did make it into the Whitehouse if a guy like this would have some overnights there.... Hope some of you got to see him -- comments?

I just posted a "free fire zone" comment on another thread. In order to really understand a "free fire zone" you have to have heard the term "restricted fire zone". In a restricted fire zone you need to get permission (via radio) to return fire if fired upon. Restricted fire zones were usually around freindly villages, close proximity to freindly forces etc. In a "free fire zone" if you were fire upon you returned fire and asked questions later. "Free fire zones" definitely gave no one license to commit any attrocities, etc. Hope this helps.

Can't resist throwing in an example: We were fired upon in a rivermouth; we were also very close to an "ammo barge". We were denied permission to return fire and told to get the heck out of there. We radiod for permission because of the designated zone and were denied.

I could hardly stand to look at that guy, much less listen to what he
said. I'm afraid I had the TV on mute, except when Hannity was
talking.
