Isn't Forgery a Crime?

The documents used by CBS to corroborate Kerry fund-raiser Ben Barnes' story look to be incredibly poorly conceived forgeries. That somehow passed CBS' rigorous fact-checking department, which apparently consists of Mr. Magoo and the late Ray Charles.

And apologize to President Bush, the nation, and disavow any further obviously biased reporting in favor of Kerry and the Democratic (sic) party. In addition, do an unbiased and professional presentation of “Unfit for Command” with John O’Neill and others who signed the letter to Kerry, without any of the Kerry screamers on the program to keep information from being heard.

So the interesting question now is "who is the criminal?"

You'd have to think that whoever supplied the memos was someone that 60 Minutes trusted since they basically ran the story without any independent verification. In which case it would have to be a Kerry supporter who was beyond reproach. This person would have to have a huge ego to think that the MSM would run with whatever they came up with (which seems to be exactly what happened).

OR

60 Minutes really knew the documents were a fake from the start. The end game is 60 Minutes 'investigates' and finds this is 'the ultimate Bush dirty trick' designed to discredit 60 Minutes, damage the Kerry campaign, and attempt to pull the wool over the country's eyes about GW's Guard service. This would imply that someone on the Bush team was very, very, very stupid (or they were a 'plant').

My bet is still on the first scenario since most things are pretty much what they seem to be. The second scenario requires a really stupid Bush supporter and someone really smart at 60 Minutes to put together the doublecross. If it turns out to be the second, however, it would make a really good movie. Even if it doesn't, Michael Moore could make it anyway!

Personally, I'm wondering if "Texans for the Truth" (their words, not mine) and/or any of the other Democratic-leaning 527s were involved. I'm also wondering, if there is clear evidence suggesting this, if the FEC will get involved.

Now CBS is going to investige this themselves. This is absurd, they are part of the fraud. They need to realize that after putting forth this fraud, they cannot be taken seriously as the ones who are going to solve it. What we need are indictments against a few of them including Rather for election law violations and whatever we can, then we will find out who is really behind it.
