Spiess: I also predict a much larger margin of victory for Bush than is currently reflected in the public polls. The law of large numbers means that it is not neccessary for a large number of voters to cast their votes on Nov. 2 for Bush to have a landslide, just for the ones that do vote to vote for Bush.

Polaris: Funny you should mention internal polling. When I heard the latest Kamaikaze Kerry Kampaign Tacky-ticks I immediately said to my husband (without looking up from my needlepoint Wink ) "The Kerry internal polling numbers must be horrible."

Great minds, and all that...

I think it would be lovely if this info (about the Kerry campaign/DNC dissing the President's NG service and the planned misstatement uncovered by Drudge) would be sent to the National Guard Association before Kerry's scheduled appearance on Thrusday--

Their e-mail address is ngaus@ngaus.org--

My fervent prayer is that his appearance there is televised--C

During my 12 month tour (actually 366 days), more than half the pilots with whom I flew my 100+ missions in Vietnam were Reservists, like me, and Air Guardsmen. John Kerry equated Guardsmen with draft dodgers. Now his lackies are trying to further denigrate their service. The majority of members of the Guard and Reserves are former Active Duty military. I often wondered how many names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall are of National Guardsmen and Reservists. One hundred and forty Medal of Honor recipients were in the National Guard. Six thousand seventy-seven members of the National Guard or Reserves died in Vietnam. Tell their families they weren't "active duty" when they died.

Prior to assignment to Vietnam, I flew missions throughout the USA and Canada in support of Air Guard units. Who knows, I may even have visited with GW Bush in the Day Room on one of my trips to the Alabama or Texas Guard units. I can't even remember who the Squadron Commander was, so please don't expect me to name everyone I ever served with. Their courage, professionalism, skill, and deportment were second to none. I wonder if the "Happy Hooligans" are still flying these days. The next time you fly on a commercial flight, chances are a Reservist or Guardsman will be at the controls. Being a wounded, decorated hero is not a license to return to the safety and comfort of the United States and promote the enemy's propaganda while your buddies are still on the battlefield or in the enemy's POW dungeons. Benedict Arnold was also a wounded "war hero" before he changed sides and gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

About Bush being in Air Force and Guard.

I don't know if this applies, but when I was in Army ROTC from 1971 - 1975, after I went on contract in my junior year I began receiving regular monthly pay. Although I had never officially enlisted, I had an official rank of E-1 (Private) seperate from my rank in the cadet corps. In addition, when I was released from my obligation to serve, I was given an honorable discharge from the Army.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that while Bush was on active duty during his 2 year flight training he may have been considered to be in the Air Force instead of the reserves.

So it is true, the DNC is going to go through with this. Pure desperation.

Yup--Just heard it reported on Fox, almost exactly as reported by Drudge--Outrageous--

And the sad part is that the Bush haters will believe it and repeat it to anyone who will listen, claiming that it's gospel truth without ever checking the facts--Kinda reminds one of a certain Mr. Rather--C

Hammer2--You are correct--that is exactly how it works. As a former Navy reservist, Kerry should know as much. The Kerry campaign continues to be one long amateurish Shakespearean production. We are currently being made to sit through "Much Ado About Nothing."

It is so sweet that the former Clinton hacks have decided to abandon the earlier Kerry campaign strategy of Mr. Shrum. Shrum believed it best to run a positive campaign, focus on domestic issues and not attack Bush personally. Shrum felt Bush was too well liked personally (regardless of how one felt about his policies) on top of being a war time president, to go after on a personal level.

After the RNC the Dems appear to have panicked, and decided to go negative. They have thus set their course for disaster. (She predicts.) People feel protective of war time presidents, whether they consciously know it or not.

Eleanor Clift (ugh. Must they be both leftist and butt ugly? Is it a law or something?) was just on FOX vowing what is, in effect, revenge for the SBVFT "attacks" on Kerry. What she said was that "the Swift Boat Vet's story was largely proven false by main stream media (yes, she said MSM) and yet that isn't a story that goes away, so Bush will be followed by this (CBS) story about him." And, one can only infer, will level the playing field for Kerry, the candidate in search of a message.

I think not, Ms. Clift. I think the SBVFT story gained traction because it is the truth. The crap about Bush will not, because it is not. But I understand that Ms. Clift would have difficulty with understanding how telling the truth works--for the leftist elites the concept of truth is surely as alien to them as the concept of love is to Satan himself: It. just. does. not. compute.

So now I do not need to speculate on the reasons for this current insanity on the part of the Kerry campaign, or why Rather would risk his credibility (yeah right, but you know) on such a silly non-starter : they are seeking revenge.

Tsk, tsk. Perhaps they haven't heard? Revenge is a dish best eaten cold. And sometimes---sometimes---revenge takes 31 years to cool off enough to savor fully.

Kimmymac, This campaign has been the biggest Democrat screwup in my lifetime.

Everytime Democrats run on their records, or advocate their real beliefs they get creamed (Humphrey, McGovern, Carter2, Mondale, & Gore).
When they bring out an unknown and lie about what they believe, they win (Carter1, and Clinton1 -Clinton2 was a Repblican screw up). I don't go back to pre-1968 because that was a different Democratic party that was patriotic and had mass appeal.

Dean could have worked for them, if he hadn't been such a Loon. He was an unknown small time governor that they could have created a persona for. Same with Edwards or Clark. Unfortunately Dean liked the role of rabble-rouser better and self-destructed.

Kerry, they realized too late and to ther dismay, had a well known and unpopular record outside of MA. He could not be constructed with spin, he has a history that is well known. His anti-war and voting record would have skewered him without the Swifties. I can only guess that fear of losing (Dean) and nostalgia for their "Movement" days (Kerry) is what lead to this debacle. I concur with Newt Gingrich's assesment that Dean was so extreme, that he made Kerry look normal by comparison.

We are witnessing the worst case of buyer's remorse in history!
Watch for the exodus for the door as senior Democrats desert this sinking ship in the weeks to come. Time is running out, if their best efforts to smear Bush fail, they wil vote with their feet.
Success has a thousand Fathers, Failure is an orphan.

I would imagine that those National Guard and Reserve troops that have served this nation so well, (and at such sacrifice), in Afghanistan and Iraq would be surprised to learn that they weren't in the "real" military.

THE DNC has gone over the edge. Truly unfortunate because I believe this country really needs two viable political parties.

Well debewley, perhaps this election will cause the Democrats to reconsider their stragety. I think Zell Miller is a good model of what a Democrat should be and I don't blame him for being sick of his party.

The left (especially the extreme "young left")is just angry all the time. I really can't understand why. Just take a look at their bumper stickers: "Defend America, defeat Bush", "Clinton: Blow Jobs, Bush: No jobs", "Connect the Pipelines", "American Terrorist (Picture of Bush)", "Impeach Bush", ect, ect. For the record, I have seen all of these stickers around State College somewhere, although a majority of them were on only two vehicles. I may have not liked Clinton, but my whole life wasn't consumed with hatred towards him.

I chalk it up to youthful idealism. They think that they endowed with the answer to the world's problems right now and that's simply to get rid of Bush. I have no idea where they got that from, but they do it with such hatred that it confuses me. I can only pray that if (I'll never concede the election until it's over) Kerry is defeated, reasonible people of the opposition party will start to "take-over" the reins and make it a party of ideas, not just of hate.

WRT the statement about the angry young left and where that comes from: Some of it can be chalked up to youthful zeal--hormones do most of the thinking for young people, after all--but tune into MTV and see what is stirred up in the hate messages and music many of our young people listen to.

There are many other factors to this, but it truly would take too much bandwidth to explain it in any detail, but let me just say that we are spoiled beyond belief by the prosperity of the United States, and our young people have been given everything they wanted (material goods, entertainment, etc.) and not nearly enough of what they needed (discipline, values) all of their lives, and that tends to make for very angry people.

Here is a questionnaire I give out to the young people I counsel:

Do you have at least one change of clothing? Yes or No
Do you have at least one pair of shoes? Yes or No
Do you have a roof of any kind over your head? Yes or No
Did you eat yesterday? Yes or No

If you answered "YES" to all 4 questions your are in the top 2 percent of the world's population. Congratulations. Now please use the space below to state what you feel is unfair about your life:
