September 26, 1945. The first American military death in Vietnam occurs, during the unrest in Saigon, as Lt. Col. A. Peter Dewey, on a mission to rescue Allied war prisoners and search for missing Americans, is ambushed by Ho Chi Minh's forces (Vietminh) who mistook him for a French officer. French and Vietminh spokesmen blame each other for his death. Dewey's body was never recovered.

Correct. You get a gold star. However, I don't think you will see his name on any monument anywhere.

Lt. Col. A. Peter Dewey's name rightfully should be recorded on a WWII monument.

...we know who is responsible for the death of the last man killed in Vietnam: John Kerry, Jane Fonda, and the VVAW, and their names should go on prison uniforms.

I could not have said it better.
