I find it the height of comedic irony that so many of you republicans are going to be instrumental in the reelection of a self-admitted cocaine sniffing, alcoholic, draft dodger over a Vietnam veteran who served his country honorably, whether or not he deserved the 3 purple hearts, the bronze star, and the silver star. Are you sure any of you people really served in Vietnam? You sure don't seem to have learned much from that experience. Anyway, thank you for giving a democrat something to laugh about during the sad and incessant mistakes of this republican presidency. |

"If you're not a nationalist, you should be ashamed of yourself. And if you're not ,what are you? A socialist?"
Well, that was a pretty mild definition of Orwell's use of the term . And one thing is for sure, I don't fit Orwell's definition of "nationalist." Conservatives do, though.
The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by their own side, but they have a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them. |

You really don't have a clue of my political affiliation, or even if I have one.
All you really know is I will not ,under any circumstance, support Kerry. It's also evident by reading your post that you don't know why.
Read a little more and comment back when you have something constructive to contribute besides calling GWB names. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

dhedges53, you hit the nail on the head. I've begun to wonder if this board is being administered and served straight from Bush's White House. In spite of their protestations that "we're not Republicans" it's pretty obvious what this is all about. |

Hey, Junior. I have the courage to say I am a Democrat. You don't have the courage to say you are a Republican. I know you never served in Vietnam with real men like John Kerry or maybe some of it would have rubbed off on you. Why don't you go down to the PX and buy yourself a spine. Now. don't bother people who want to contribute a real opinion with your insipid, obtuse, and blatantly ignorant remarks. |

LOL! And I thought your obsession with something about Hillary Clinton and Vince Foster was over the top.
Tin foil hats, you say?
Sounds like yours needs tuning.

You know nothing of the kind. Resorting to name calling again means you really have nothing constructive to contribute. Keep practicing. Maybe you can get the hang of it. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

You're right, it is obvious. So how come you keep getting it wrong? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

You didn't answer the question. Your definition of a nationalist doesn't come out any dictionary I've seen. Are you making this up? Or is it just another opinion disguised as fact? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Wait a second... you were just a second ago admitting to being a nationalist, and amusingly that because I'm not a nationalist, I must be a socialist.
As for the conservatives that Orwell was referring to, here's a good definition from the Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition (exerpted):
Often nationalism implies national superiority and glorifies various national virtues. Thus love of nation may be overemphasized; concern with national self-interest to the exclusion of the rights of other nations may lead to international conflict.
--- snip ---
However, this thesis is belied by the intense nationalism that characterized the German Empire and later Nazi Germany
---- end quote ----
I hope it sounds familiar. It should. Nationalism is the conservative sentiment "my country, right or wrong." I think you guys should try to decide whether nationalism is bad (and therefore not what you are) or nationalism is good (and is exactly what you believe).

Because of all the denials. Like "you have no clue about my political affiliations" crap. Let's just stop with the nonpartisan game now that it's all out in the open, okay? |

So does that mean "yes" that you are a socialist or do you just worship at the shrine of Orwell for grins and giggles? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

An Insult To All Marines
The picture on the cover of John Kerry's book The New Soldier resembles the scene depicted in that famous photo of the Marines raising the flag on Mt. Suribachi. I believe that VVAW and Kerry were deliberately mocking that symbolically important event. It is apparent that the most beloved and reproduced photograph in American history - one that helped inspire our soldiers, sailors and Marines to victory in a tough campaign for our very existence and can now be found in every Marine Corps boot classroom - never made much of an impression on John Kerry, and that is still true to this day. If not, he would have apologized for such a grave insult to his country, to all who fought in WW2, and to all United States Marines. I call on all veterans, but especially ALL Marines, to avenge this insult by ensuring that John Kerry not only loses in November, but loses so badly that his political career is destroyed. That's my mission; how about you? Semper Fi! Walt, Marysville WA, (USMC ’65-’69) _________________ Walt Jones (USMC, '65 - '69) It says much about the person who defends a man with no honor. |

Doublespeak is what I expected. Doublespeak is what I got. A simple yes or no would suffice. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

During an interrogation, you can expect a "yes" or "no"
Not here in a free and open forum. Sorry if this isn't what you're used to. Remember that the next time you try some variant of "are you still beating your wife?" it might be turned around to show your true colors. |
