I'm not a strategist, but in thinking about Iraq it seems to
me that the iraqi war and removal of Sadam has redefined
that region and redefining that region will give us the upper
hand in putting pressure on those countries that are
intentionally or by looking the other way allowing
terrorists, including Al Qaeda, to operate. We are in the
middle of a hornet's nest. Terrorists are pouring into
Iraq to fight our soldiers and coalition there. Why? I
believe, and I could be wrong, that it is not just their hate
for Americans that drives them. Indeed, Iraqis and others
are being killed. So, why? Could it be because with us in
Iraq, Syria is now surrounded by hostile countries -
US (in iraq), turkey, and israel - Saudi Arabia is surrounded
by US (in iraq) Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, Iran and Qatar -
Iran has US supported Afghanistan on their east and US/iraq
and Kuwait on their west. Our navies are in a tremendous
postion as to the Persian Gulf and controlling the waters
there. Kerry's remark at last night's debate wanted to
further the anti-war cry of "it's about the oil". It's about
the oil if you are France, Russia, Germany or Syria and
Iraq, where it is their economic life. The US wasn't relying
on Iraqi oil. We didn't have any deals with Saddam.
Kerry wants us to go Global and get the UN's blessing
before using our military. This would be the same UN
that tried to keep Sadam in power for its own corruption -
oil for food. But, I could be wrong. _________________ “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a

I agree that the balance of power and the isolation of bilegerant states was one of the reasons to go after Sadam. Another reason is that we are fighting al-Kieda on the plains of Iraq instead of the mountains of Afghanistan. Kerry is too concerned with his hair and "sun" tan to figure this out. Shifting the war from the mointains to the plains was a brilliant strategy, and I believe that someday when the press finally shifts back to nutral President Bush willl be honored in the ranks of men like Washington and Lincoln. |

Also think of the strategic location of Iraq. We know that our enemy (the terrorists) is a dynamic and not static force. If we have forces based in Iraq then we can quickly respond to our enemy in any of the known terrorist supporting nations. Look at the map below, Iraq is literally in the center of the Middle East whereas Afghanistan is east of Iran. As noted: It’s a rougher terrain with more places for the enemy to hide but also it’s “out of the way”, think of getting your army on the ground to ….. oh lets say Syria, whoops Iran is in the way, also Afghanistan is “landlocked” whereas Iraq has at least a small port plus we have Kuwaiti ports that we can use. Yes Iraq was not only a target in the war on terror it was also a brilliant strategic move, we have a foothold in the Middle East.

Remember Khe Sanh? The mmarines wer landlockd and sourounded, and bad guys kept swarming them? And remember what happened to all those bad guys?
With terrorists, the only way to defeat them is to kill them. To kill them you first have to find them. And that means either go where they are, or get them to come to you. So long as they're willing to save us the cost and effort of having to go looking somewhere else by coming to us... _________________ Hating John Kerry continuously since 1971.

Excellent point! I didn't think about the flat vs mountainous
until you brought it up. The mountains were a problem and
an advantage to the enemy that knows them well...flat land
gives us an advantage...Yes, excellent point. _________________ “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a

Wow! I just thought it and not really visualized it until
you posted the map! Unbelievable! No wonder Iran and
Syria are letting the terrorists cross their borders. The
positioning implications are just brilliance...This had to
be Franks thinking. _________________ “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a

And the media and Kerry degrade Bush for saying
"Bring it on"...Bush was taunting them! They are
doing exactly what we need them to do to destroy
them. Looking at the map makes sooo much sense
to things that Bush has said...and makes Kerry
look very, very stupid. _________________ “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a

That's because the rest of you are the strongest part,
I just introduced the topic and let those smarter than I
complete it and, hopefully, enlighten those persons
who can't understand why we need to be in Iraq...and
it has been great reading _________________ “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a

This is a story from National Geographic August 1991
Kerry Quotes:
"There were no terrorists in Iraq before we invaded"
"American troops first guarded the oil fields and the oil ministry"
If this is not reason enough, then I give up !
Google: March 17, 1988 Halabja You should find some great pictures of what Weapons of Mass destruction do. I could probably go on but I don't think that it is necessary. The world is a better place without Saddam and we had pleanty of reason to go to war with Iraq! _________________ ATACKM
