Thanks biker for the link, it is indeed much clearer. Kerry pulls something out of his jacket and puts it on the podium. He then apears to manipulate it in some way. Unfortunately there is no podium shot on the FOX link to watch Kerry at the end.

I truly believe this is worth further investigation.

Does anyone know how to get Drudge onto this, the issue of Kerry taking something from his pocket that he was using on the lecturn?

I don't know if this has already been answered, but when you go to drudgereport.com scroll down and on the left side is a box where you can submit tips or suggestions.

Daves, go to bikers post just above, click on the link there. When you get to the FOX site click on the part 1 of the debate, then wait till it cycles through the promo for the Vice Pres debate. It will come on automatically.

I recorded the debate and Kerry had what looked like a folded piece of paper which he took out of his breastpocket. The president had a sheet of paper already at his desk. I wondered why Kerry kept on writing through Presidents Bush's questions perhaps that was to divert attention from the fact that he was reading from some sort of scripted notes. I doubt if anything will be done about it.

Shocked You know right as he takes the podium, the paper is unfolded and he smiles and nods, picks up pen/pencil(or crayon) and begins to write( time frame 2:21 - 2:31) for 10 full seconds! Nothing of note has been said yet.

What a DORK Cool

I had mentioned to my wife while were watching the debate that he couldn't be actually writing anything, watch the pen, that’s not writing that’s waving it around in the air. No he was way to cocky about it. He new what was going to be asked before it WAS asked. And you know just like other cheaters he managed to screw up multiple times during the debate anyway. To cocky for his own good, he’s lucky I wasn’t on the other podium or he’d be doing the rest of his campaigning butt up in ICU! Secrect Service or no Secrect Service it would've been WWF time Twisted Evil

Sorry for the graphical metaphor Mr. Green

I took a few screenshots from Real Player using the debate video on the Fox site. Unfortunately, the quality isn't great because to get a screencapture, you have to disable hardware acceleration, which hurts image quality.

This is hosted on a free site - no clue how long it will last. If someone has some webspace they want to put this on, feel free.

Did anybody notice this -- I watched the debate on FOX and several times the camera showed George Bush from the back. It never showed Kerry from the back (that I recall). If there was a camera positioned to show him from the back... well I just wish I knew who that camera operator was! And what he saw Kerry doing.

I saw him pretending to write all the way through the debate too. My husband says he thinks all Kerry was doing was using his pencil to follow his script and find the appropriate 'plug in' each time. Ooooh this makes me furiouser and furiouser. I mean I knew the guy was a louse but for him to stand there in front of 55 million viewers and get away with this?! arrrrrghhhh Evil or Very Mad

Can you imagine what would be going on in the media if Bush had done this - hanky, pen, cheat sheet, or whatever. Whatever the item was, it tells me that Kerry thinks he is above the rules. How many times did he look down at that paper? Tons, while Bush was using his mind.

I just watched the debate again because I realized that CSpan has two versions....the second in full split screen showing both candidates all the way through. I didn't realize this was available.

The first thing I noticed was that Kerry made a long litany of attacks against President Bush at each turn. I am sure that his strategy of making false claims took the President off guard. How do you respond to something you don't believe to be true? If you say it isn't true and you are wrong, you look misinformed. Kerry's strategy was dishonest. He was definitely trying to throw the President off stride from the bs about the lights to the bs about the split frame shots to the bs about having something in his pocket and the bs charges he leveled against the President. The man has no shame.

The link below is to a slightly different video of the debate. It also opens in Windows Media player. Zoom full screen, then select slow play speed and watch the first 25 seconds or so. You will clearly see Kerry take something out of his pocket. That item is clearly white. He also appears to unfold the item, then place it on the podium and look at it.

Now, perhaps it's a hanky to wipe his sweat, but the motion appears to me to be more consistent with removing and unfolding a sheet of paper. I don't see a hanky being unfolded, nor would it be placed directly in front of him on the podium.

The camera was not supposed to show them from the back. It was against the debate rules. The rear cameras were only supposed to be used for the moderator.
