Kerry’s 40,000 New Troops?
Isn’t it ironic that the rumors about the Draft coming back are from the left, yet is it John Kerry who wants to add more troops. Just how and where will he get this number of troops if the amount of volunteers
do not match his?
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/national_security/newthreats.html
* Add 40,000 Troops To The Active Duty Army To Prevent And Prepare For Other Possible Conflicts (not to increase the overall number of soldiers in Iraq).
Kerry proposes a new National Service Plan, much more ambitious than other Presidents, i.e., the Peace Corp, or Americorps. Interestingly enough he proposes 25,000 young people to work in homeland security
for two years to qualify for college tuition. What on earth would he assign the young people, not in college yet, to do for homeland security?
Work as airport screeners, border guards, inspecting cargo? Are they
serious? This would be in exchange for 2,000 a year in tuition. Two thousand a year? That won’t even pay for books.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1233465/posts
Kerry aims to bring 200,000 young people a year into full-time service in their communities within a decade through his Service for College proposal. There would be 25,000 working in homeland security efforts; 75,000 serving as teachers, tutors, or mentors; and 100,000 building affordable housing and working to keep water and parks clean. Kerry would also bring 300,000 college students into part-time service as tutors and mentors for at-risk kids, in exchange for $2,000 per year in tuition aid.
Together, these initiatives would give 500,000 young people each year the chance to earn money for college through national service. That's more volunteers in one year than have served in the entire history of AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps combined.
While scaling up support for service in America's communities, the Kerry plan also recognizes that no obligation is more fundamental to citizenship than that of preserving our free institutions by serving in the military. To encourage more citizens to share that burden, Kerry would bring an additional 40,000 Americans into the regular Army, recruit a more representative officer corps by returning the ROTC program to every college and university that receives federal funds, and modernize the GI Bill to increase the educational opportunities of those who serve.
Finally, to assist our overburdened Armed Forces and support the spread of freedom and democracy abroad, Kerry proposes the creation of a Civilian Stability Corps, which would bring civilian volunteers into post-conflict environments overseas, helping to restore roads, renovate schools, open hospitals, and build police forces. Working alongside this Civilian Stability Corps would be a reenergized 25,000-member Peace Corps, up from its current 6,700. |

This guy is SCARY!
He wants the MTV generation to "volunteer" for 2K a year in compensation for college? Shoot, most of the kids I know spend that much (at a MINIMUM) on CDs!
And Kerry has this um, small issue he hasn't addressed. In order to raise 2 additional standing divisions, he needs to have Congressional approval. If the Republican Congress is unwilling to raise two active duty divisions for a Republican president, what on Earth makes him think they'll do it for HIM?
He's so clueless, he's a menace. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

In the fwiw dept, that 40,000 has been occasionally mentioned as special forces.
I'm not sure of the logistical or tactical support additions that would have to be made to accomadate 40,000 SF, but i've heard numbers of up to 5 to 1. Going off that number it would mean 200,000 additional regular service members to supprt the SF crews.
This 40k would be that doubling of the SF that kerry has occasionally mentioned. I suppose if one could get the real total on current SF and support forces dedicated to them, then a pretty fair number for additional forces could be arrived at. _________________ said Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe. well, when even the DNC can see it,,,,, then kerry is toast. |

On kerry's website they are also alternately called "citizen soldiers". That's straight from Stalin. (wwII against the invading germans) _________________ said Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe. "It is inexcusable to mock service and sacrifice."
