I dont know of any branch that salutes in civies------or skivies!

The only thing I could come up with was that covered was opposite of naked.......and I could not figure out why there would be rules about saluting when you were naked:)) I know..........CIVILIANS:)) |

I was taught (both at The Citadel and the Army) to return all salutes, even if in civies and with or without a hat (which is what we in the Army call it, not a cover.) I was also taught that it is a sign of greeting for both parties, not, as some think, a sign of subservience. Here at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station it makes me feel proud to return the salute of the sharp Marines at the gate and thank them for their service.
Different terminology among Services is fun and gives us the opportunity to tease each other: I remember the Sergeant at jump (parachute) school tearing into several candidates for wearing "Air Force Gloves". I was confused until I realized the candidates had their hands in their pockets...a HUGE no no. _________________ Kerry...Hanoi Jane...Murtha: same-same
