Historybuff, when I Enlisted in the Army in 1983 there were still people who reffered to us who enlisted as "Baby Killers". I think to understand the reasons why this is coming about now, is to look at that as a part of the reason. For many years Military Service was looked down on by a great many people, and it was the Protestors of Vietnam who were given the credit for anything good coming out of the Vietnam War(WRONG!!).
Now take into account the fact that this was perpetuated by much of the media of the time and carried through even today as well.
Look at the fact that this has been brought up not to help Geprge Bush remain President, but by the fact that John Kerry made the choice to run for the Presidency as a "War Hero". He was no Hero on his Return, that is for sure. Yes he and his ilk aided in the ending of the Vietnam War. They did so by aiding and comforting the enemey. They gave them hope, they gave them the knowledge that if they could hold out a little longer for the Public Opinion in the United States to grow against the War, they would win.
They did, and thousands of American Serviceman suffered, many more thousands of Vietnamese and Montangard were killed because of it.
This has never been acknowledged by the Public here as a whole, and certainly not by our Media.
I have been screaming about these things for the past couple years, as it related to the Anti-War movement in this country and the War on Terror.
When Kerry began his run for the Presidency I began yelling louder.
The Swift Boat Veterans began Screaming about this time as well. The POW Families, as well have begun to raise their voices along with thousands of Veterans across this Nation.
Why now? Maybe because one of the key players in our loss in Vietnam is running for the highest office of the United States. Maybe because he betrayed his Brothers in Arms, our POWs, their Famalies, and our Nation. We can not remain silent and allow the "old stories" to die away. For john Kerry still acts the same way he did back then. He is ill equipped to be President of the United States because of his total lack of honesty, and his propensity for being on the wrong side of the foreign policy of this Nation. His abandonment of the POW/MIA issue for finnancial reason, etc....
Maybe it is hard for you to understand this, maybe you do not want to(?). Maybe it is because while History can be read and memorised, unless you lived through it or its after affects you just can not understand it.

A major problem with being a "History Buff," is that “history is written by the victors.” Since the radical left and communists won the Vietnam war, all the while never defeating the US military in a single major battle, I do believe there is a better than average chance that history of Vietnam might just be a bit skewed towards them.

I too have read many books and watched several "documentaries" about Vietnam and none come close to what I actually endured and saw while doing my own undergraduate studies at the University of Southeast Asia, Central Highlands Campus from June of 1969 to January of 1971.

One reason much of what the Swift vets, POWS and other Veteran Groups as well as Veterans ourselves haven't brought any of this up before is because no one wanted to hear it. Anytime we tried to tell the "truth" about our time over there, we were immediately shouted down or ridiculed as liars and demented vets trying to whitewash ourselves, many times by so called "History Buffs."

Peter Arnett's "Vietnam: The 10,000 Day War" series, Time Life and Boston Publishing Companies "The Vietnam Experience," the 18 book series, as well as Hollywood's movies, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Casualties of War, and too many more to post their titles, have been accepted as "fact," by many "History Buffs." No one has ever tried to interview any veterans of the war, except for the few disgruntled and some outright phony veterans used by the likes of John "F"in Kerry in his infamous 1971 speech to the Fulbright Commission, that cemented the vision of Vietnam Veterans being walking time bombs with hair triggers and sad losers that were trained monsters and baby killers waiting to explode on an innocent and unsuspecting public if you crossed our paths.

Some 30 odd years passed and much of that "History" was dying off, although few made any real effort to explore the truth about the Vietnam Conflict. Suddenly, earlier this very year, all those old wounds were ripped wide open by the very man that cemented that false view of Vietnam veterans coming forward and now claiming more or less to be the sole "hero" of that war, based on his 4 months service and totally ignoring the years he spent as he lied and slandered 2.5 million Vietnam veterans who served honorably and with distinction. Any who felt duty bound to expose the fraud of John "F"in Kerry were and are immediately branded as kooks, liars, frauds, opportunists, or worst of all, "Bush Supporters," by the very left leaning alphabet news networks and most every strongly left leaning print media, with not one seriously ever looking at one single allegation against Kerry objectively. The few that did were immediately branded as "Political Hacks" and ridiculed and ignored.

You fear Stolen Honor is "propaganda?" It is. From the American Heritage Dictionary, we read,

prop·a·gan·da n. 1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those people advocating such a doctrine or cause. 2. Material disseminated by the advocates of a doctrine or cause.

Propaganda isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, doesn't the above definition make what those who support Kerry say also "propaganda?" Doesn't that make Fahrenheit 9-11, Going Up River and Tour of Duty also "propaganda?"

All 3 of the aforementioned "documentaries" have been soundly rebutted as largely false and heavily prejudiced, yet many "History Buffs" openly embrace them as truth, while making every effort to silence Stolen Honor, often without even viewing it objectively.

If you truly are a History Buff, I invite you to get your nose out of the prejudiced books and visit the nearest VA Hospital, VFW, American Legion or anywhere you can sit down with and talk to real veterans of Vietnam and seek their story. Review the several thousand comments made here and at other veteran sites and listen objectively and intently. It's my guess you will hear a view of History you hadn't up until now.

While you’re at it, ask yourself why some 71% to 78% of Vietnam veterans and active military today, oppose Kerry. Then pray that the charlatan Kerry has failed in his bid for Commander in Chief.
