Not to be a cynic (I prefer the term "realist"), but those so-called "news" networks use phony "polls" to stir up artificial controversy and to punch up their web site hit numbers. Higher ratings/site traffic = more advertising $$$.

Beyond that, they couldn't care less how the results come out.
