Checking in here. My name is Bill Scroggins. I served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 1968 to Nov. 1971 aboard U.S.S. O'Callahan (DE-1051) as a Gunner's Mate. We made two Westpac cruises, one in 1970 and one in 1971. We spent alot of time on the gunline in South Vietnam, mostly down around the Song Ong Doc firing dufflebag missions and also in and around Vung Tau. We did a lot of time on plane guard duty in the Tonkin Gulf following the bird farm's around. Later I served two years in the Navy Reserve and 17 years in the Army National Guard. I am thrilled to see this website and the Swiftboat vets have my full support. While we were anchored off of the Song Ong Doc, in April-June 1970, we had lots of PBR's and Swift's come alongside for some cold showers and hot chow in our air-conditioned mess decks. We blue-water sailors had a lot respect for our fellow sailors who were serving in the Brown-water Navy.

Bill Scroggins
U.S. Navy 1968-1971

Good to see so many honest to God courageous men and women here. It gives me hope after having to listen to all the liberal drivel coming from the liberal media, and a scandal that the liberal media refuse to cover Unfit For Duty.
Hope ya'll don't mind an Air Force vet sticking her nose into the mix.

DC Wright, SSgt of Marines (retired)
Regular and reserve.
Phu Bai RVN, 1969... not a full tour, as I got caught in the Phase 2 withdrawals and sent to Okinawa. Served with HMH-462...In later years, had dealings with SBU-11 at Mare Island... Nice folks, now gone elsewhere, I guess...

Thanks for this forum, it makes me feel good and proud to see that the men under Kerry aren't afraid of him and came out with the truth. Sixteen living members out of 19 can't be wrong. I know two are passed on and one is in his corner.(Must have been his bosom buddy or only one at that time that liked him).

I myself am a retired Air Force Master Sgt. I was a first sgt. when I retired in 1984, but I did serve two tours in "NAM" and a slew of TDY's. My father and do I ever miss him served 31 years in the Marine Corps and fought in WWII, Korea, and NAM. I spent sometime with him in NAM in 1965 and he was wounded on Hill 22 , 31 Oct. 1965. He went back again in 1968 and retired in 1969. God help us if Kerry is elected. The man in my mind is a complete fool. How in the world can anyone trust him or believe in him. Didn't the Democrats have any one better than him to run?

I will keep an eye on this forum and if I can be of any service to any one out there let me know. I will do the best I can. Thanks again!

Not a Navy vet, although my dad was. I did my time in the Army from 94-98 Ft. Bragg NC (Airborne);yeah the Clinton years. Nothing like that to make a Repulblican out of you.

I can't believe the treatment of Swiftvets by the media. By working togeter we can get this massage out.

Well I am not a squid like most of you guys but more of a dogface. I entered active duty service in 1986 and served with 82nd Airborne 4/325 AIR as a rifleman. I progressed into a machine gunner and then became a Sgt. and weapons squad leader. I participated in operation Just Cause in Panama. Combat Jump onto Omar Torrios airport. Couple of days of fighting but after that it was like kicking over a fruit stand. Got out right after the first desert storm and spent five years in the reserves.

US Navy 1983-1989
1983-1984 NAVSTA Great Lakes - boot, ET "A" school
1984 Chanute AFB "C" school
1985-1987 USS Inchon LPH-12
1987-1989 USS Elmer Montgomery FF-1082

This is a great site. I have tremendous respect for you guys who are war veterans. I was lucky to be only a peacetime veteran.

My only brush with combat was July 3, 1988, when the USS Vincennes and the USS Elmer Montgomery engaged a group of Iranian gunboats in the Persian Gulf. This is the incident that led to the Vincennes' accidental downing of a civilian airliner.

My first Duty Station was aboard the USS Wasp (CVS-1Cool at NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island in 1971. I was assigned to V-4 Divison (Fuels Div) and participated in her decommissioning in 1972.

I requested duty in an attack or fighter squadron - they assigned me to VA-34 (Attack Squadron 34) - "The Blue Blasters" a squadron of A-6 Intruders homebased at NAS Oceana, Virginia. A group of right sharp guys. We deployed with the USS John F. Kennedy (CVA-67) Late in 1972, we went through a period of operations in preparation to deploy to WesPac in leu of the USS Forrestal in early, 1973. We were enroute and as far as to the equator when our orders for deployment terminated when President Nixon signed the Treaty and the USS Forrestal continued its tour in Vietnam. It was during this time that I got right with God.

USMC 1967-1971. Got to vietnam as an 0311 in oct 67 and was sent to 5th Marines at An Hoa Combat base. Lots of bad guys around there. 2/5 moved to the Phu Bai area where I thought it might not be so intense. That didnt last long. My squad was one of the first to go into Hue City. NVA with battle flags everywhere and the small arms roar was deafening. I made it thru and was even dumb enough to go back for a second tour. Semper Fi.

Greetings from Hawaii. Never served in Vietnam but spent 32 years day for day from 1956 to 1988 in the Navy. Detailer sent me to South Korea in 1966 for three years so when my tour was up in 1969 I was eligible for shore duty. Brief overview of assignments: Recruit Training - Bainbridge, Maryland; USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16), Key West, Florida (had some great liberty in Havana until Castro came along); USS Midway (CVA-41), Alameda, California (WESTPAC got pulled out of Hong Kong for brief period off the coast of Vietnam - I guess you could count this as a Kerry tour); COMNAVAIRPAC STAFF, North Island; U. S. Naval Advisory Group, Seoul, Korea; RVAW-110, North Island; USS Oriskany (CVA-34), Alameda, California (last WESTPAC and decommissioned); Human Resource Management Detachment, Subic Bay; Naval Communications Station, Puget Sound, Silverdale, Washington; Fleet Activities, Chinhae, Korea.

Been visiting this site since May - spend at least three hours reading all the comments. Learned a lot and passed it along to fellow veterans and civilians. I wear a Veterans Against Kerry button everywhere I go and its a great conversation starter. I think I have converted some people - for example I was at the Dentist today and one of the assistants saw the button and asked why I was against Kerry. Pretty hard to hold a conversation when someone is drilling a hole in your tooth - but I gave her a brief overview and recommended this site as well as WinterSoldier.
I keep hearing from Kerry's side of all the veterans for him - but I have yet to meet one.

The bottom line is I believe these shipmates and will support them any was I can. I have purchased two books (read it in one day) and starting to passed them along. Sent a donation and will continue to do so as long as necessary.

Damn the Torpedoes and full speed ahead Swifties! We are going to win this thing.

Active duty AF July 68 to November 72. ANG November 72 to May 89.

Served in Viet Nam April 70-April 71. Plekiu and Ahn Khe.

Today I am ashamed to say that Sen. Harkin is one of my Senators, what a disgrace. I noticed that after his complaints about Kerry, he failed to mention he flew mail planes in the Navy. Instead of being proud of his service, he needs to imply that he served "in the war" while VP Cheney avoided the draft. Simply beyond belief.

I admire you gents and your efforts. Please keep it up! I offer my website - http://conservativeoutlook.com - as an outlet for you. Any and all are welcome to submit opinion pieces any time.

Will keep you all in my prayers.

B Co Ist Engr Bn......1st Inf Div.....BIG RED ONE 67-68

Combat Engineer....swept and cleared Thunder Road...cut LZ's...did our best to eliminate hiding places of our enemy by the elimination of the Michelin Rubber plantation ( we were a little ahead of our time not liking the French) . Twisted Evil ..etc...etc...etc....

Kerry, by hanging his hat on his service Question in Vietnam has opened the door for Real Veterans to step up to the plate and be heard. I can't speak about his service on the swift boats, as I'm very happy to say my feet never got that wet, although trudging thru rice patties, had its moments.

What I can speak about is Kerry's trashing of all those that served in country and did our job, without looking for atta boy's.....medals....and pats on the backs, or creating an image that would allow us to run for a political office sometime in the future. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I never thought about carrying a video camera with me to document my time in the Nam.

Kerry, by going before the Senateand testifying, accusing all who served were committing war crimes says much about his own character. I know that I didn't involve myself in those type of actions, but Kerry said that he did. Lets point the finger right back at that scum ball. If he did those things, let him stand before a trial of his peers, although I hasten to say I wouldn't be one, since I did serve my country honorably, and let him answer to the charges which he said he comitted.

Glad there is a site like this where Vets can vent.....

I have my VETERANS FOR BUSH Bumper sticker, and BIKERS FOR BUSH sticker, and damn proud that I do..
