Not exactly current up to the minute! Still makes an interesting point about how VVAW slammed the VFW. I'm surprised he got any applause.

Guys,

I've been sniffing around other forums and apparently many veterans DID turn their backs on Kerry and one (the Oklahoma delegation) actually walked out. VFW was purported (waiting for confirmation) to go about 80-90% Bush.

Yahoo has the AP story now

Quote:
Kerry received a polite if not overwhelmingly positive reaction from the
VFW. Large portions of the crowd applauded with each promise to protect veteran's benefits and with many points he made about Iraq (news - web sites) and terrorism. But there was a clear divide, with scores of veterans sittings with their arms folded while others clapped. One man heckled Kerry, calling him a liar, as VFW sergeants at arms admonished him.

"I'll say it myself. He's a liar," said John Ranson of Fort Thomas, Ky., a 57-year-old Vietnam War veteran who sat a few feet away from the heckler. He said Kerry has not supported U.S. troops as senator or as a Vietnam veteran who protested the war.

But there was no shortage of Kerry supporters, including some who voted for Bush in 2000. "He's got a mess overseas," Dale Hall, 49, of Franklin Park, Ill., said of Bush. "I stand behind the troops, of course, but he's not done a good job."

No surprise here but Rush just stated that the dems are desparate and kerry did poorly at the VFW.

Any other commentary from other sources?

HOW DISGUSTING!!!

THIS is how they're going to present the story???

overwhelmingly positive???? WHATEVER!

I truly and overwhelmingly hope the MSM goes down just as fast as Kerry! What a disgrace to people's intelligence.

NO WONDER DEMOCRATS/LIBERALS WANT TO KEEP AMERICA DUMBED-DOWN AND ILLITERATE!

Anyone aware of what's going in the public "government" school system knows what I mean! The future of this country is doomed unless more parents pull their children OUT of government schools!

Justamom:

Reread the quote. It says "polite if not overwhelmingly positive". Notice the word "not".

You GottaBeKidding, perhaps you don't understand what's being said there? It's like saying...a sunny if not perfect summer. The word not isn't a negative here!

justamom,

Reread the quote. It is NOT a positive. NOT NOT NOT.

He got a POLITE reception. It was NOT OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE.

This is called damning with faint praise. "Polite" in this context is a way of saying that the VFW people didn't boo him, but they weren't warm.

here's the AP report about the Vets turning their backs....

By TERRY KINNEY The Associated Press
~Snip
Not everyone was willing to accept Kerry as a brother in arms. Some criticized Kerry's protest of the Vietnam War as a returning veteran while others questioned his support for U.S. troops as a senator.

"I didn't like a thing he said. I don't like him," said Charles Osborne of Cincinnati, who served two tours with Special Forces in Vietnam.

Kerry, who spoke to the group two days after President Bush, received a polite response from the VFW. Large portions of the crowd applauded with Kerry's promises to protect veteran's benefits and with points he made about Iraq and terrorism. Some sat with arms folded and two stood and turned their back to Kerry while he talked.

Attendance was noticeably smaller than for Bush's speech Monday when the president announced a plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Europe and Asia.
