It's still five days away, but I wanted to be the first to wish my fellow Gyrenes Happy 229th Birthday.

In honor of the moment, how about two things? Your highest rank and the years you served.

I'll start...

Sergeant
1970-1974

You sound like one of those snooty, elitist, East Coast snobs, Captain.

Out here, in the sticks, we sometimes have to hold our "p"'s for special occasions, especially if there's a good headwind threatening to blow it back in our faces.

As you were, ladies. Goodness, the way you two are carrying on, real people might just get the wrong idea about how we treat our brothers (and sisters). My svc number starts with a '2' but I ain't no boot. My credentials are plainly stated below my signiture.

Happpy Birthday.
Carry on.

OK, three Marines so far, which reminds me of a good story...

During World War II, four Marines were sitting in a grass hut on a small island in the South Pacific, playing bridge.

Suddenly, a native scout burst into the hut and exclaimed:

" MARINES! COME QUICK! JAPANESE LANDING PARTY ON HORIZON...MANY SHIPS...HUNDREDS OF SOLDIERS! HURRY!"

The Marines looked at each other, then continued playing bridge. Finally, one of them stood up, took his rifle and announced:

"I'm the dummy this hand. I'll go take care of it."

commdog,

Don't worry too much about me and 1991932. We're best buddies. we just like giving each other, and our 82nd AB buddy, crap. Our wives and friends hear the verbal warfare and wonder if we even like each other.

My military ID #, before they changed it to a SSN, was 2635657.
