I ordered "Unfit...." July 28, and Amazon says I will not receive before Oct. Are they doing this to all?

No, I ordered mine last week, and they say they're shipping on the 17th along with a couple of other books.

Possible, but as I recall Slick Willie seemed to keep the books on the shelves despite the supposed demand.

You can't trust your order status at amazon when you pre-order a book. It'll either pop up "Shipped" under your account or the actual book will show up on your doorstep, while your amazon account still has it shipping late Sept/early Oct.
And so many people placed pre-orders - they'll ship the pre-orders in roughly the order in which they were received and I hope they've got enough on their initial and subsequent orders to the publisher to get everyone covered as quickly as they usually do!

Send a protest to their investor relations contact by e-mail
If they get enouh they have to report it to the Security and Exchange
Service, that they have upset "minorty" stock holders and put that
problem on their next stock holders meeting.
do this and they will ship..
I have advised them of their up comming problem starting back
in July. so it is in their (hair shirt) we can give them.

I wandered into the local Barnes & Nobel over lunch hour. They didn't
have it and didn't know when it will be in. I called the local Borders
and they told me that yeah, it's in and they have a whole pile of them.
Come on in! So I go to Borders for the book and a cuppa coffee. Hell
Starbucks at B&N is too pricey anyhow.
