Here is a post I did on another thread:
Why dosen't anyone call these people on this!
1000 Dead in Iraq, from the beginning of the war until now, and they have to include non-combat and civilian deaths to reach this number. This is a total time frame of 18 months.
I do not mean to belittle their sacrifice, but let's put this in perspective:
Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3 1863, 3 days - 0ver 7800 Killed in action.
http://www.militaryhistoryonline.com/gettysburg/getty4.aspx
Belleau Wood, June 1918, 22 days - 1811 KIA
http://www.firstworldwar.com/battles/belleau.htm
D-Day, June 6 1944 - 1465 KIA
Http://www.ddaymuseum.co.uk/faq.htm#casualities
Heartbreak Ridge, Sept. 13 - Oct 13 1953, 30 Days - 597 KIA
http://www.2id.org/heartbreakridge.htm
Khe Sanh, Jan 21 - Feb 29 1968, 40 Days - 205 KIA
http://www.willpete.com/siege.htm
Note that I only listed individual battles, not the entire conflict. In addition, I only listed American, not Allied or enemy casualties.
Now then, these jerks have the unmitigated gall to scream about the high number of American casualties in Iraq?
I shudder to think what would happen to our country if people who are so absolutely clueless are in charge of the defense of America!

This is a tough subject to talk about, isn't it? Each death is tragic, a young person's life is forever gone and their families forever changed. I don't think that it was right to even touch on the milestone of 1000 dead. That said, a desert storm friend's comment on the number was "that's nothing compared to a lot of the other wars". |

3,000 dead from 911, plus: 500 dead from the Russian school hostage, airliners blown up (all within 2 weeks) plus: Madrid train bombing, plus: Nightclub explosion in Singapore, plus: Hostage situation in Philipines........
This is a war against terrorism. Foreign terrorists going into Iraq to kill our troops seems increasingly more difficult. Now they are capturing any handy "Infidel" _________________ Peace is acheived through victory |

Did you ever notice that the people who complain that one or a thousand or (make up a number) casualties are too many, are also the people who are unwilling to put themselves in harms way to defend a principle? _________________ Doc Ford

Why do the leftists (I refuse to call them by their co-opted self described term of "liberal" because these people are not liberals, anymore than fascists are liberals. Kerry is a FASCIST, he is NOT a liberal) anyway, where was I? Oh yeah.
Why do the leftists only focus on American deaths in Iraq as their big milestone? What about the dead sailors on the Cole? What about Somalia? Don't those men count? Oh, I get it! The Fascists don't include them because they were killed under a Demofascist administration, and we all know they are exempt. |

I can't speak for combat troops. In the Navy from what I witnessed at sea and on shore I'ld estimate 150 fatalities per 100,000 per year without a shot fired. I understand non-combat fatalities in Iraq approximate that number.
Certainly the numbers compared with any earlier American war are miniscule. Compared to auto fatalities, homicide rates, and accidental deaths stateside the numbers are marginal. That's not to say these cowardly murders are acceptable or that the 50k death benefit is adequate. It is to say the ghoulish media preoccupation and lack of proportion is inappropriate.

Call me a bleading heart liberal, but I beleive that any amount of deaths are too many when you haven't exhausted every resource in going to war.
Is 1,000 alot, and should it be focused on? Not comparitively, no it isn't. When I was younger (10-12 ish) and my father would criticize something, I use to compare what I had done to a past experience, and say," Well, at least it wasn't as bad as last month when I ...". EVERY time he would say "Don't compare past Fck ups to this one. You will never get any better at what your doing". I expect alot from my leaders, and I am more than happy with our performance in Iraq (though like everyone I wish it was over, and everyone returned safely), but comparing to old wars, and saying its not that bad because it could be alot worse is no way to look at anything in my opinion (unless I was running for president).
Finally, I'd like to ask 2 questions.
1. Does Iraqi civilian casualties matter (that sounds more inconsiderate than I intend. I obviosly care more about the lives of oursoldiers, but I also feel for the poor Iraqi's who have lost the homes and loved ones because of a misguided bomb)? I'm told it is over 10,000, but I can't confirm any of that.
2. I also heard that we are losing soldiers at an increasing rate. Anyone with real knowledge on this? _________________ "I already don't miss it," he said of Washington. Asked to elaborate, he replied: "You know that great feeling you get when you stop banging your head against a wall?" |

LISTEN UP SWING! I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP!"
All the rhetoric on whether or not we should go to war against Iraq has got my little brain spinning like a top. I enjoy reading opinions from both sides, but I've detected a hint of confusion from some of you. Maybe this can help.
As I was reading the paper recently, I was reminded of the best advice
anyone ever gave me. He told me about the "KISS" method ("Keep It Simple,
Stupid!"). So with this as a theme, I'd like to apply this theory for
those who don't quite get it. My hope is that we can simplify things and
recognize a few important facts.
Here are ten things to consider when voicing an opinion on this important issue:
(1) Between President Bush and Saddam Hussein ... Hussein is the bad guy.
(2) If you have faith in the United Nations to do the right things, keep this in mind: the UN has Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq heading the Global Disarmament Committee. Do your own math here.
(3) If you use a Google or Yahoo search and type in "French Military Victories," don't be surprised if your computer panics at its inability to respond to your inquiry.
(4) If your only anti-war slogan is "No War For Oil," hire a pit bull lawyer and sue your school district for having allowed you to slip through the cracks and robbing you of the minimum education that any non-troglodyte deserves
(5) You can take this one to the bank: Saddam and bin Laden will NOT seek UN approval before they try to kill us.
(6) Despite common belief among lefties,Martin Sheen is NOT a President He only plays one on TV.
(7) If you are anti-war and even an outright "America Basher," to bin Laden you are still an "infidel" whom he wants dead.
( Be careful: if you believe in a "vast right-wing conspiracy," but not in the danger that Hussein and other tyrants in the middle east poses, the only job you may be able to get is as an Ivy League college professor.
(9) Even multi-culturalists who try to browbeat us into believing that all cultures are equally deserving of respect have trouble explaining the past 500 years of Islam.
Whether you are for military action or against it, OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN OVERSEAS ARE FIGHTING TO DEFEND OUR RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT. WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT THEM WITHOUT RESERVATION.
I HOPE THIS HAS BEEN HELPFUL.
the websters dictionary definition of fascism
stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
An interesting history lesson and commentary by Dennis Miller on
"Palestine".
Study and enjoy and pass it on.
A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don't get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really need.
Don't thank me, I'm a giver.
Here we go:
The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that there are no Palestinians. It's a made-up word. Israel was called Palestine for 2,000 years.Like "Wiccan","Palestinian" sounds ancient but is a modern invention.
Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was
owned by Jordan and there were no "Palestinians" then either. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," weeping for their deep bond with the lost "land" and "nation."
So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" anymore to describe these delightful folks who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them what they are:
"Other Arabs Who Can't Accomplish Anything In Life And Would rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death."
I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: Adjacent Jew Haters". Okay, so the Adjacent Jew Haters want their own country.
Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They could've had their own country any time in the last 30 years, especially two years ago at Camp David.
But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living.
That's no fun. No, they want what all the other Jew Haters in the region want:Isreal They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course--that's where the real fun is--but mostly they want Israel.
Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel--or "The Zionist Entity"--as their textbooks call it--
for the last 50 years has allowed the rulers of Arab countries to divert the attention of their own people away from the fact that they're the blue-ribbon most illiterate, poorest, and tribally backward on God's Earth,
and if you've ever been around God's Earth, you know that's really saying something.
It makes me roll my eyes every time one of our pundits waxes poetic about the great history and culture of the Muslim Mideast.
Unless I'm missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to the world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that one.
Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs. Five million Jews.Think of all the Arab countries as a football field and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it.
And now these same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of matches, everyone will be friends.Really?
Wow, what neat news. Hey, but what about the string of wars to obliterate the tiny country and the constant din of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea?
Oh, that? We were just kidding.
Just reverse the numbers.Imagine 500,000,000 Jews and 5,000.000 Arabs. Can anyone picture the Jews strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of course not. Or marshaling every fiber and force at their disposal for generations to drive a tiny Arab State into the sea?
Nonsense. Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of children? Disgusting.
No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.
Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that
with vital operations coming up against Iraq and others, it's in our
interest, as Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as
possible, and, after all, that can't be much harder than stabilizing a
roomful of supermodels who've just had their drugs taken away.
However, in any big-picture strategy, there's always a danger of losing moral weight.
We've already lost some. After September 11, our president told us and
the world he was going to root out all the terrorists and the countries
that supported them. Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and
months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and
then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint
If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all
very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and
kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan.
(wait a minute, that's actually not such a bad idea... ooh, that is,
what a horrible thought, yeah, horrible.)"
Please feel free to pass this along to your friends and a Big huge Fat HAT TIP to wordsmith,Friend, fellow Steeler football fan,Pittsburgher, former liberal now turned Conservative-Pro GW BUSH, anti Kerrey, fan of the SBVT's, talk show host and all around great guy, DENNIS MILLER,who contributed to this 'Rant'

Boy is that a fact. And I'll tella something else "they" could care less about those boys over there. "They", the Liberals, are always fighting to get to the front of the morality line. In reality their only interest is their personal partisan politics. As to casualties a soldier or a Policeman dieing in a war on terror is "acceptable losses", a civilian dieing isnt! Most of all woman and kids.
I hate these kids being over there in that terrible place. I hate the fact they are dieing and getting maimed. But they chose that life, as many here did. Myself included ! Its their duty to fight, and our duty to support and honor them. If these magnificent troops of ours werent murdering these animals in their beds, and on their home ground, our streets would be bathed in blood from terror attacks.
Im so proud of those sailors, soldiers, marines, and airmen of our I could burst. When I hear these selfish, spoiled, ignorant, maggot Liberals badmouth them it just makes my blood boil. We have 90lb girls in our military, who ride nothing but a typewriter, and have more courage, honor, character, and selflessness in their little toe then any 10,000 of these flagburners will accumulate in an entire liftime................Rich _________________ "Freedom" is never "free" |
