Looked like it was a low budget production.
I was not impressed.
From a political standpoint, I actually considered it fairly even handed ... this time.
Of course race was brought into it and the feminization of the army and, yes, the sergeant was angry. I probably would have been also , if my one year tour had been extended 90 days. And of course, the squads platoon commander appears to be a moron. Also a possibility.
I expect the politics of the war to to show up more and more as the series matures.
Hollywood types can't keep this type of show neutral. They can't help themselves, it seems. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Ooooookay. I got that puppy on my hard drive now. I watched it while
it recorded so without going into disecting it frame by frame, it seemed
like the usual chaotic "war movie". But I do have a few questions. This
coming from a dumb Navy snipe just out of the fireroom with a fresh air
chit:
1. This is a squad from a motorpool platoon, right?
2. If it's supposed to be a straight infantry squad, what are the women
doing in it.
3. Why does it take an afternoon, two nights, a day, and a morning for
them to reduce a lousy mosque in the middle of nowhere?
4. Why don't they have any armour vehicles?
5. Why don't they have any air assets?
6. Why don't they have any artillery?
7. When spending a prolonged time in the desert, why doesn't anyone
have any water available?
8. They don't seem to have any food in the field either. They eat at a
base somewhere.
9. Where is the rest of the platoon while the squad is having a prolonged
firefight?
10. Do they have any adult supervision?
11. Shouldn't they be using the "F" word for a comma?
12. Howcome the unit is a newby unit, but the Sergeant is crabbing
about getting extended for an extra three months? Is that extended
for the tour, or extended beyond EOS?
13. Wouldn't a deploying unit bring along an NCO with sufficient time
left to make the tour?
14. Where is Ernie Bilko when you really need him?
15. At least Sgt Saunders got his regular squad back everytime, it was
the guest stars that got bumped off every week.
So I'll record for another couple of weeks (and watch the pilot again for
critical content) before I give it up. On the plus side, the program content
ran for a whole 43:29 minutes (including credits). Not bad. Most
programs run around a 40/20 split between program and commercials.
OK, fresh air chit's expired. Back to my smoke hole. _________________ Tin Can Sailor |
