From PowerLine this morning. Pretty strong for the WaPo.
Quote: | Fred Hiatt of the Washington Post on the Democrats' recently released national security plan:
Quote: | Throughout the plan there is no discussion of values, of liberty or generosity, of free markets or foreign aid -- of any purpose for American leadership larger than self-protection. The pollsters may be satisfied, but John F. Kennedy would not recognize his party. |
Hiatt also notes that, while the Democrats promise to "buy more weaponry than the Bush administration [and] sign up more troops," they also implicity reject the notion that we are (or should be) engaged in a long-term global struggle against terrorism. One wonders, then, why we need to buy more weaponry and sign up more troops. More precisely, one wonders why anyone should believe that the Democrats would do these things. |
