Any of you writters out their please polish this up so we can start distributing it to all of the chapters of all the veteran groups throughout the country.

Please encourage your members to write a letter their editors and if they refuse to print it encourage your chapter to conceal their subscriptions.

Our future Veterans deserves an honest media.

In 1971 (is like yesterday for many of the Vietnam Veterans) the VVAW (Vietnam Veterans against War) organization produced testimony to be given before a senate hearing committee that focused on the alleged actions of a few and with one broad brush implicated 2.5 million members of the military as supporting a free fire zone mentality of death and destruction. The media picked up the story and pounded away at the American psychic day after day. The result of this coverage was a much distorted public opinion of the American troops. And as the Vietnam veterans came home they were treated with a spirit of non approval from not only strangers but former school mates and even members of their own family. America also had several hundred men in captivity that were presented with this same VVAW dogma day after day in an effort to break their spirits.

Fast forward 2004 - "There they go again" the media finds a story about uniformed Americans behaving badly and pound pound and pound away at it eroding public opinion. They will stay on this story until there is another story about uniformed Americans behaving badly and then the drum beat will begin to pound away some more. I am not saying stories about uniformed Americans behaving badly should not be covered, however when they cover a story beyond the point of no new information being added and at the expense of the positive things that the American public should be informed about it is an abuse of the troops in harms way that have kept us out of harms way for over 32 months now.

Questions informed Americans should be able to answer
1. When was a military and intelligence base established in the heart of the terrorist world?
2. How many corpses were uncovered from mass graves?
3. How many non terrorist Iraqi corpses have been added to the grave yard over the past 12 months?
4. How young were some of the prisoners found in Saddams prison?
5. When was the Iraqi constitution drafted?
6. What percentage of the al-Qaeda’s leadership has been killed or captured?
7. Why haven’t we had another terrorist attack in more then 32 months?

If this was a quiz how many of these questions could you answer?

Perhaps we would know the answers to these questions if they were being covered by the media or is the media to busy looking for the next American behaving badly story. Or worse, how can we put another fresh face on the prison abuse story today?

There is a grass roots movement of veterans who do not want to see this generation of troops abused the same way the Vietnam Veterans were. The veteran community is asking the American public to support our troops by completely removing CBS from their life. Veterans are going to utilize the parental control feature on their televisions and put a lock on CBS. This is a very serious issue and we need to send a very strong message and apply punishment that will be felt in every board room of every media outlet across the country. The troops in harms way have given so much to us so we can carry on with our normal lives in a very hostile world I think we can go without CBS for the next several months.

Simple – Support the Troops Boycott CBS

Broad appeal - Something a large amount of the public can identify with – non-polarizing
Non-political

Stay on message – It is about this generation of troops not being treated like the Vietnam vets when they came back home. Do not allow them to get us off topic. With questions like, why CBS not ABC, or NBC etc.? answer I do not know and it does not matter why the veterans decided on CBS I am sure the board rooms of all forms of media will get the message that the veteran community on behalf of the Troops that are in harms way keeping you out of harms way allowing you to live a normal life deserve to have the war on terrorism covered completely and honestly.

Emotional - needs to stir reader to action, also needs to stir the messengers into service.

A call to duty – reader needs to feel like they are obligated to participate.

EZ to comply – We have such short attention spans for this to work we need for participants to block CBS from their TVs otherwise while they are surfing and happen across something of interest on CBS they will conveniently forget about the boycott.

Stake Holder - like they are participating in the war effort much like the World War II women working in the factories.

Messengers – I think this is a veterans issue and we should go to all of the thousands of VFW, AMVETS, USO, ADAV, American Legion, and any other veteran organizations that are out their. These veteran groups are primarily made up of retired soldiers who have time on their hands and would love to participate in this cause. How can any good American say no to these guys who have given so much so they could pursue their own lives in peace. And even in there elder age they care so much about the troops in Iraq that they have yet another fight to fight. It will be interesting to see how the press will spin this. Silly me, why would they want to, this boycott will provide them with an opportunity to pick up part of the CBS market share.

Conduit
-Schedule pickets at all of the local CBS stations across the country
-Letters to editors from veterans
-Get all of the AM talk show hosts who have demonstrated support for the troops in the past.
-Television media
-Door to door
-Internet
-Bumper stickers

Schedule a national level veteran advocacy group meeting

Meeting Agenda
Each advocacy group will be responsible for getting a point person for every region
Every regional point person will be responsible of assigning a member of every chapter with the responsibility of getting the CBS boycott message out in their local community.
Each chapter will conduct fund raisers to be pay for items that are agreed upon at the national advocacy group meeting.

To do list
1. Write a letter to the editor that veterans can submit to there local newspapers.
2. Schedule a national level veteran advocacy group meeting
3. At meeting create organizational chart
4. Agree on the letter that veterans will distribute to newspaper editors
5. Agree on message and agree to stay on message
6. Compile a veteran directory for every state.
7. Compile a list of talk show radio hosts who have been favorable towards veterans in the past.
8. Who, How, What & when will we contact radio & TV personalities.
9. Fund Raising ideals
10. Bumper Stickers
11. Signs
12. News Paper adds
13. Local CBS station pickets

VFW, AMVETS,.. any other veteran advocacy group "it is your turn". If you do not belong to a veteran’s advocacy group it is your time to join. We are going to utilize the chain of command of these organizations to get the CBS boycott out.

Please ask Walt Jones to email you the final draft of the letter to the editor. Please ask if you can meet at the Wall with the top level decision maker from the advocacy group you belong too. On 7/12/04 0900 if that is not a good date we will find another. This is important all the veterans need to be on the same page and stay on topic.
