|
|
Today's Truegrit Street "Pro vs. Anti-Kerry" Poll of passing motorists was conducted in several Boston suburbs. Motorists who give a thumbs up to my sign "Kerry is Unfit to be Commander-in-Chief" are polled as anti-Kerry. Motorists giving a thumbs down or negative head wag are counted as "pro-Kerry" supporters who disagree with my message. Flipped birds (also known as "giving the finger") are not counted. Aside from the fact that they represent uncivil political discourse, they are ambiguous in meaning!
Kerry fails to get a positive majority even in Newton, a liberal Boston enclave. Anti-Kerry votes outnumber pro-Kerry votes by 2.7-to-1, a lower ratio than I have been getting elsewhere in town. In Wellesley, an affluent suburb, Kerry did best, getting 14 votes vs. 25 against, for a ratio of 1.8-to-1 (anti Kerry votes to pro-Kerry votes).
Although Kerry does better in Wellesley and Newton, this is not good news for Kerry because anti-Kerry sentiment prevails -- despite the liberal voting tradition of these communities.
In Dedham, where 128 intersects with Rt. 1, Kerry's numbers are in free fall. The anti-Kerry motorists outnumber pro-Kerry motorists by 6 to 1.
Truegrit Survey Methodology:
Only clear head wags (side to side, or up-down) -- or thumbs up or thumbs down -- count as votes. Motorists in Boston wanting to participate in the survey should give thumbs up if they agree with my sign, and thumbs down if they don't -- as this is easiest for me to decipher.
Voting participation is about 5%. I believe the low turnout may be affected by the large percentage of motorists who talk on cell phones while driving, and who don't have thumbs free for the poll.
Voters, and there have been several, who say that "both are unfit to be commander in chief," meaning Bush as well as Kerry will not have their ballot counted.
To borrow from Wolf Blitzer of CNN: This is not a scientific survey, repeat, not a scientific survey. But it's a heck of a lot of fun. _________________ Ted Harwood, Ph.D.

Truegrit:
What happened to the idea of running the poll on Beacon Hill (say, for example in Louisburg Square)?

True, Im thinking of conducting a poll out here in Oregon, Will any corner work? what if all the good corners got homeless working them? would it be ok if I count the bird as "undecided" or would it be better to count them as nader people?
Should I wear head gear?, I think theres alot more to this poll biz than people think......Thankx _________________ MOPAR-BUYER |
