Everybody's wondering who was the controlling authority, the mastermind in Memogate. So far, I've heard Bill Burkett, Dan Rather, Mary Mapes and even Max Cleland nominated as the "brains" of the operation.
But let's consider one more suspect who has an established record of creating fakes and forgeries to serve his own agendas.

He is widely suspected of filing falsified after-action reports while on active duty.
He is widely suspected of fabricating his own medal nominations while on active duty.
He is widely suspected of having doctored his military records after leaving active duty.
He is known to have falsified and fabricated accounts of atrocities after leaving active duty.
He is known to have collaborated in the creation of fake Viet Nam Veterans as a co-chairman of VVAW.
He is known to have created faked testimony of those fake veterans, as a co-chairman of VVAW.
He is known to have suborned perjury and the creation of fabricted testimony by at least one real veteran, while a co-chairman of VVAW.

Does it seem at all unreasonable to suspect this individual of once again suborning forgery, fakery and lying in pursuit of his agenda? Seems tome there's a clear, and consistent M.O. here.
Does running for office place you above the law?
