Isn't the twin .50 station just above the pilothouse where Kerry was supposed to be? Could Gardner have just tapped his boot on the deck and have the sound echo through the pilothouse? Was Kerry on the head, sleeping, or typing his manifesto?

The other thing I've never heard discussed if why the PCF 21 radar didn't see the Sampan. Was it not working? Blocked by Kerry's boat?
