In response to a question from a friend, I decided to research John Kerry's record and accomplishments. We know that he is the Senate's most liberal member (more liberal than both Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy). We know that he has voted against funding virtually every important defense and intelligence program, including a bill termed so "reckless that it had no co-sponsors".
So what exactly are John Kerry's accomplishments? I couldn't easily find a list on the web, for reasons that will become readily apparent, so I checked his official Senate web site. What I found was a tad... uhmmm... frightening.
Over his entire Senate career spanning two decades, John Kerry lists 25 major accomplishments. No signature legislation. No major bills sponsored or co-sponsored. Apparently, though, he did miss a lot of Intelligence meetings. Nonetheless, here are some of the highlights of John Kerry's career, according to his own Senate web site:
2002
- Massachusetts Telecommunications Council "Policy Maker of the Year"
2001
- Visiting Nurse Association of America's "Legislator of the Year"
- Gerry Studds Stewardship Award from the Boston Harbor Island Alliance for his work to preserve the Boston Harbor Islands
2000
- Massachusetts Association of Home Health Care's "Legislator of the Year"
1999
- Friends of the Public Garden's "Henry Lee Award" for efforts to preserve Boston's green spaces
1998
- Assumption College's "Presidential Medal"
1996
- Armenian Assembly of America's Award for service and commitment to the Armenian people.
1993
- Tri-Community Chamber of Commerce George B. Wells Award for leadership in tourism
1988
- Commencement speaker for Umass/Boston 20th Commencement UMass Boston Honorary Degree
- Brockton Little League's "Appreciation Award" March 7, 1988 for work with special needs division
A tad frightening, no? A Brockton, Massachusetts Little League award is one of his 25 signature accomplishments in a 20 year Senate career? These are the finest accomplishments of a man who would be president? The hair is standing up on the back of my neck. _________________ http://directorblue.blogspot.com - click for various missives on the folly of John Kerry's candidacy. |

As if those "awards" arent disturbing enough, its pretty pathetic he couldnt find anything from 2003, 1997, 1995, 1994, 1992, 1991, 1990, 1989, 1987, or 1986. Hell, there are more years there where he didnt accomplish/get awarded a darn thing, than the years where he managed to post a (for the most part, not to knock any of these organizations) lackluster award. |

A Record Of Few Accomplishments
Kerry Has "A Short List Of Laws That Bear His Name." "Asked what he has accomplished during his 19 years in the Senate, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry gives a lengthy answer but has a short list of laws that bear his name. … Kerry has been the lead sponsor of eight bills that have become law. Two are related to his work on the Senate panel on oceans and fisheries - a 1994 law to protect marine mammals from being taken during commercial fishing and a 1991 measure for the National Sea Grant College Program Act, which finances marine research. In 1999, President Clinton signed his bill providing grants to support small businesses owned by women. The rest of the laws he saw passed were ceremonial - renaming a federal building, designating Vietnam Veterans Memorial 10th Anniversary Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and World Population Awareness Week in two separate years." (Nedra Pickler, "Kerry's Senate Career Marked By Investigations, Not Legislation," The Associated Press, 7/21/03) |

In Sunday's Akron Beacon Journal (Ohio), on pages A12 and A13, there are comparisons between Pres. Bush and Mr. Kerry on a variety of issues. Down the right side of A13 are listed the five significant achievements in the Senate for Mr. Kerry:
1. Relations with Viet Nam (helping to normalize)
2. POWs in Southeast Asia (15 mo. investigation, no compelling evidence)
3. Drug trafficking investigation ( Panama's Noriega and BCCI)
4. Report on Contras (this was the Iranian-Contra thing)
5. Refusal of PAC money (for his four elections to the Senate)
Mod/admin - sorry, I looked for a web link, but this two-page comparison is not on the ABJ website as of 23:00EDT Sunday. The overall site is www.ohio.com . The twin articles are titled "Bush on the issues, in his own words" (pg A12), and "Kerry on the issues, in his own words" (pg A13). |

Given Kerry's liberal/socialistic tendencies I think we should be damned glad Kerry's list of "significant accomplishments" is so short. _________________ "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse."

Right Hondo, no legislation is good legislation, especially with this jerkwad.
If massachusetts wants to keep sending him back to the senate, ok by me, but that's as far as that poodle will hunt! _________________ Corpsman, 1969-1973 |
