Gee, what do you know, Kerry's friends are a step ahead of him....maybe this is old news since it was begun in 2003, but I only recently heard of it;/ Women drafted........BAH.

Kerry claiming that President Bush will institute the draft, when the truth is, the democrats are already in the process of trying it.

Rangel introduces bill to reinstate draft
Rumsfeld says he sees no need for military draft

WASHINGTON (CNN) --Rep. Charles Rangel introduced a bill in Congress Tuesday to reinstate the military draft, saying fighting forces should more closely reflect the economic makeup of the nation.

The New York Democrat told reporters his goal is two-fold: to jolt Americans into realizing the import of a possible unilateral strike against Iraq, which he opposes, and "to make it clear that if there were a war, there would be more equitable representation of people making sacrifices."

"I truly believe that those who make the decision and those who support the United States going into war would feel more readily the pain that's involved, the sacrifice that's involved, if they thought that the fighting force would include the affluent and those who historically have avoided this great responsibility," Rangel said.

"Those who love this country have a patriotic obligation to defend this country," Rangel said. "For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance."

According to Rangel's office, minorities comprise more than 30 percent of the nation's military.

Under his bill, the draft would apply to men and women ages 18 to 26; exemptions would be granted to allow people to graduate from high school, but college students would have to serve.

Anyone who didn't qualify for military service because of impairments would be asked to perform community service.

The lawmaker has said his measure could make members of Congress more reluctant to authorize military action. The Korean War veteran has accused President Bush and some fellow lawmakers of being too eager to go to war.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters Tuesday he sees no need for a draft. He said the military is managing to attract enough skilled recruits without one.

"We're not going to re-implement a draft. There is no need for it at all," Rumsfeld said. "The disadvantages of using compulsion to bring into the armed forces the men and women needed are notable."

Draft controversy
The nation had a draft in place between 1948 and 1973. It grew to become the center of controversy during the Vietnam War, 1964-1975, an undeclared war that was the most unpopular conflict America has fought.

Anger over the war led many young men to flee to Canada and elsewhere to avoid the draft, and violent protests were rampant. When the draft ended, the United States set up an all-volunteer military.

Since 1980, the Selective Service has required men 18 to 26 to register to give the government a pool of men it could draw from in case troops were needed in an emergency.

As of October 31, 14.1 million men would be eligible for a draft, said Selective Service spokesman Pat Schuback. Twenty-year-olds would be called up first, followed by others -- year by year. In the age group 20 to 26, 11 million would be eligible.

The average number of men registered per year during the Vietnam War era was 18.4 million. That covers the period from July 1, 1964, through June 1973.

These guys are SUCH LIARS. This is the same bloody bill, but he did not introduce it Tuesday, he introduced it in 2003. The CNN article gave no bill number. Hmmm, now why would they lie about this, especially considering they are trying to pin a draft on Bush?

I attended a town meeting with congressman John Tierney (Dem. / MA) in May. He had the small crowd whipped into a frenzy by stating that the DoD was actively opening draft offices and evaluating staffing needs. My personal BS meter pegged out, but it was just what the anti-Bush crowd wanted to hear.

This morning the local Boston TV news is advertising a special segment they will air next week. It goes something like "How the draft will effect your family." Very sensational.

My disgust with the DNC and their allies in the media continues to grow.

This new media is fantastic. The lefties habitually have pulled these stunts. Now they get debunked with supporting documents before they gain any traction. They just keep slipping & sliding like a couple of drunken teenagers on a frozen pond.

Notice anything strange about this list?

ALL are Democrats.

I have heard alot about this issue. I must say that the main stream media is reaching and Kerry & Company are just blatent, flat out liars. If I am wrong, please correct me, but it seems that there is no need for a draft because after 9/11 our young Americans have come forth to stand by their country and protect it and its peoples.

Where do these people get this stuff? Evil or Very Mad

The anti-BushDraft site in question is:

http://www.bushdraft.com/index.html

Netcraft shows that this server went online only this month (9/04).

It has a forum that you can post to without registering:

http://www.bushdraft.com/forum/

The proof this website is volunteering is troubling:

http://www.bushdraft.com/proof.html

There are two links at the bottom of this page, one for Senate and one for House of Representatives.

Both these links go to a site with URL:

http://www.congress.gov/

Netcraft shows that the above link is actually the Library of Congress! You can eventually link to the following page on this site:

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR00163:@@@P

This page has the same names on it that can be linked to from a URL in a previous post in this SBVT thread:

http://congress.org/congressorg/bill.xc?billnum=H.R.163&congress=108

Note that the list of sponsors at the congress.gov site is the same as the one at the congress.org site minus the party affiliation information. In other words, it appears that some anti-Bush person/organization is taking advantage of the fact that Library of Congress is not listing party affiliation where Bills pertanining to sensitive social issues are concerned.

Thank You

Only CONGRESS can re-activate the draft.

The PRESIDENT has nothing to say about it, except VETO!

Duh.

It is irritating but Rangel admitted on FoxNews today that he wanted to stir things up.

His and Hollings' logic is that when people have to face sending
their own children to serve they will rethink their politics
and so will the young people.
It just takes a little time to knock their rhetoric down.

Remember what Lyndon Johnson used to say when
he was informed that he could not tell an obvious lie
about his opponent.

He said "just make'em have to deny it".

I am afraid that in politics it will ever be thus.

It will be interesting to see how this comes back to
bite them in their own races when word finally gets
around and people realize their level of low!

We must stay vigilant and work harder.

Make it a great day.

Of course you all notice they are black congress persons on that sponsors list. Rangel is making the draft a race issue. He wants to "balance" the military so the military will be more rich white than poor black, [his opinion not mine] He said as much in this CNN story.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/01/07/rangel.draft/

"Those who love this country have a patriotic obligation to defend this country," Rangel said. "For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance."

According to Rangel's office, minorities comprise more than 30 percent of the nation's military.

Here we go again making the military a politically correct social experiment.
