He obviously thinks in Linear term, that is the traditional balance of power
ideas. His comments on the GWOT show this clearly. He thinks of GWOT as simply operations in Afghanistan against al Qaeda. Get UBL and we win! Therefore, Iraq is something completely separate, as are N. Korea and Iran.

We are fighting an Asymmetric war. Miltiant Islam and terrorist groups/supporters do not adhere to the concepts of nations, boaders, laws, and alliances. If you look at Iraq as the next likely base area for al Qaeda after Iraq, OIF takes on a new perspective. An established base, al Ansar al Islami, the protection of a dictator who thumbs his nose at the world, lines of communication through several countries, and possible access to WMD. Prempt Iraq and you probably stopped aQs next move.
