If they can get Rush's records without being charged with a crime, then we can get Kerry's, right? I know---wishful thinking. _________________ Never Ever Give Up

Apples and oranges.
Military records are jealously guarded by the DoD. They absolutely will NOT release them without your express written consent.
While that can be annoying, it is also comforting. I've got nothing in my military records that I'm ashamed of, however, I don't think I want every Tom, Dick, and Harry crawling around in them, either.
When I was working as a Defense contractor, and went through my security clearance stuff, I signed a 180 to let DISCO comb my files. I didn't HAVE to, but it simplified matters for all concerned.
I'm not running for public office, running for the position of Commander in Chief, but I do NOT think it is unreasonable to see his records. I don't mind redacted versions, I could care less what his social security number is, or what his re-enlistment code was.
Howeve, since he wears the mantle of "war hero" and brings up his military qualifications at every opportunity, it's not reasonable to simply take his word for it. Especially since his integrity suffers on a number of issues related to his service.
To my way of thinking, if you are being considered for the job, you should be allowed to examine someone's bona fides. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

Since Kerry is running on his Vietnam hero record, I would think that Kerry would be proud to show off his primary sources. Time is running out, he needs to release them swiftly. |

Yeah, almost certainly wishful thinking.
Cipher indicates above its an "apples and oranges" comparison. IMO, actually it's more like like watermelons and grapes.
Limbaugh's medical records were seized as part of a criminal investigation. Presumably they will be protected from public disclosure until trial by the prosecution. Can't say that I agree completely with the seizure - I find medical privacy arguments in Linbaugh's case pretty strong - but the courts routinely allow seizure of evidence in criminal investigations. In doing so, they balance privacy concerns and claims of privilege against the needs of law enforcement. A court has ruled in Limbaugh's case that the seizure was proper. It may well be appealed to a higher court by Limbaugh.
That is a very different situation from Kerry's refusal to voluntarily release his military and FBI records. As much as some here wish otherwise, so far Kerry has not been indicted of any crime, nor is he under formal investigation of any crime. Even though Kerry is a public figure, his records are nontheless still covered by existing privacy laws and applicable administrative procedures.
It may seem - and in fact well may be - politically stupid for him to release these records, particularly if there's nothing seriously derogatory there. However, it is Kerry's right to refuse to release these records to the public if he so desires. _________________ "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse."

Lets face it Kerry will never sign SF 180 to release his records. He knows the MSM will not push him for it.

I believe you need the 180 for medical records also. No 180 no medical records.
