In my area there have been a lot of complaints about vandals destroying or removing Kerry/Edwards signs, so it goes both ways.

But for the DNC Chairman to make a statement like that is really over the top!

'McAuliffe also issued a warning to the students that President Bush would reinstitute the military draft.' Who's the whacko here? Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Sounds to me like a conspiracy to commit vandalism ... true it is a misdemeanor in most states but when you count up the number of signs it could easily become a felony

throw the BAST*** MacAwful in jail

Time to sit out on the front lawn with a shotgun.

I would love to see some punk try to take mine off my lawn or mine off my truck. I sent this to Drudge.

In many jursdictions theft or defacing political signs during a campaign is indeed a crime. If I recall correctly, soliciting a crime may also be a crime (or might be prosecutable as conspiracy) if anyone follows through.

Anyone know
a. Precisely where McAuliffe made these statements?
b. Whether there have been any signs stolen/defaced in that area since?
c. If we have any lawyers out there that might weigh in on this matter?

Here's the article:

http://www.townhall.com/news/politics/200410/POL20041008c.shtml

The relevant quote is:

Quote:
"I don't care what you've got to do to get those Bush signs out of the way," McAuliffe told the College Democrats. "Do what you have to do."

Anyone who removes signs off private property, homes, cars, business's, is liabable for a lawsuit and also being jailed. McAuliffe better watch what he is telling those college students.

Someone stole one of those large Bush/Cheney signs, you know, about 2 1/2 feet by 6 feet and supported by two metal posts. The posts are still there. Today, the owner put up a smaller hand-lettered sign that reads (approximately):
"This Bush/Cheney sign
was stolen by
Democrat thugs
in violation of
Free Speech"
The sign location is along a busy road, so lots of folks will see it.
