I have taught for over 21 years in a community college that is less
than 10 miles from Camp Lejeune, NC. Many of our students are
active-duty US Marine or Navy personnel or their dependents. Our
community is very closely intertwined with and very supportive of
the base. I was HORRIFIED to find in my mailbox yesterday morning
a flier announcing that Michael Moore's propaganda film is going to
be shown not once but twice on our campus this week. It is being
sponsored by the Social Science Club which has as their advisor
a sociology instructor who is so far to the left that he belongs to
the Socialist party. I would not interfere with the First Amendment
rights of our students, but I am disgusted that this film, which has
been demonstrated to have over 50 inaccuracies in it, is being
shown to "young skulls full of mush" without an opposing view
being presented or without their being told of the blatant lies that
are in the film. I can imagine what the advisor of the club would
say if some GWB supporters wanted to show Stolen Honor on
campus so close to the election. If he had invited the students to
his home to view the film, I would have no objection. I just resent
the implication that our college approves the propaganda in this
film. I hope it backfires on him and turns more people off than on!
BTW, I read some online comments by Zogby that show that he
still thinks the race is John Kerry's to lose. He also said that NC
could still be won by John Kerry. There is absolutely NO WAY
that is going to happen. Although our democratic governor may
survive (no democratic incumbent governor has ever failed to
be re-elected in NC), Clinton's buddy Erskine Bowles is trailing
Richard Burr (R) in the race to replace John Edwards in the US
Senate. I will put up with the fairly conservative Mike Easley to
give President Bush one more Senator to stop the unconstitutional
filibuster of judges that is going on in the Senate. Burr is in a good
position, not only because of the strength that Bush has in NC, but
also because he was instrumental in getting the tobacco buy-out
through the Congress. This issue is very important to the small
tobacco farmers in our state that tradtionally lean Democratic.
I have never understood how they could fail to blame Clinton's
war on the tobacco companies for destroying their way of life,
but these "yellow dog democrats" gave him a pass. _________________ Susan R. Morton |

I have heard rumor that around October 26, Moore's film is going to be a "no fee" rental in alot of video stores. _________________ Regards,
