There has been discussion here (and in alt.poltics.republicans) over whether Kerry deserved his Vietnam medals, and over whether his Purple Hearts were for boo-boos or minor scratches. I would advise steering clear of this line of argument. It is weak because the other side can argue against it and say, "At least he was there, unlike Bush." Then we end up on the defensive, e.g. by having to reply that Bush flew high-performance jet interceptors. Going back and forth in this manner is a bit like the trench warfare of World War I: it uses up a lot of resources and gets us nowhere.
The basic idea of politics (or war) is to attack what the enemy cannot defend. I made very successful use of this principle against the Million Mom March in 2000. Instead of arguing gun control with them (difficult in any case due to their no-debate policy), I distributed information that showed their apparent abuse of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt money to fund Al Gore's political campaign. I did this in a manner to maximize the collateral damage to Gore's campaign as well.
I told the Moms' rank-and-file via publicly-accessible Internet forums (which they closed down after a few months, probably because of this) that the MMM lied to them to get them to donate money and support. They were trying to organize a chapter in Wilkes-Barre but, after one letter to the editor along these lines, they were never heard from again. This strategy broke the organization's back because it was totally defenseless against the allegations. By hitting the Million Mom March in the proper manner, I achieved what the NRA could not despite its far greater resources: the actual destruction of an enemy organization as a viable political force. (Political) war of maneuver versus war of the bludgeon.
It is what Kerry did AFTER he got out of the service that is pretty indefensible. It hurt veterans, especially troops who were still in Vietnam. The Left cannot use any of the defenses I have described above. Furthermore, Kerry's own statements suggest that he knowingly committed war crimes, which would make him America's Kurt Waldheim if he got elected. We should compare his conduct in doing nothing about the alleged atrocities and that of the soldiers who blew the whistle on Abu Ghraib by using their chain of command. Here are some leaflets that give the general idea (all are free and royalty-free for copying)
http://www.stentorian.com/politics/kerry.html Kerry, General Giap, and Jane Fonda
http://www.stentorian.com/politics/warcrim.html Kerry giving Hitler salute while saying he was "just following orders"
http://www.stentorian.com/politics/genghis.html Kerry as Genghis Khan (to whom he compared our Vietnam troops)
We should also be talking a lot more about Al Sharpton, George Soros, and other unsavory characters with whom Kerry is associated. Consider the blue-collar mine worker or auto worker who has been conditioned to vote for the Democrats because they are "friends of labor." This is doubtlessly true of Harry Truman and Hubert Humphrey Democrats but the party of Jesse Jackson is quite different. Blue-collar workers are NOT going to be friendly to George Soros' agenda of handing over American sovereignty to the United Nations, John Conyers' demands for slavery reparations, or a proven racist and anti-Semite like Sharpton. Southerners are not going to be happy about the NAACP's depiction of Confederates as Nazis. (See http://www.stentorian.com/politics/bond.html for this one). It is therefore important that we make Sharpton, Soros, Michael Moore, Conyers, Ted Kennedy, and so on Kerry's "running mates" at every opportunity.

http://www.stentorian.com/politics/kennedy.html Ted Kennedy, the "heart and soul of the Democratic Party," with a liquor bottle in his hand, asking, "Dude! Where's my car?"
http://www.stentorian.com/politics/bond.html Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee with Hitler mustaches and swastikas, per the NAACP's depiction of Confederates as Nazis (while touting Kerry as their candidate). Urges all Southerners and right-minded Yankees to thank Kerry appropriately on November 2. _________________ --Bill
