Saddam trial: UN snubs USA

UNHQ, Oct. 23. — In a blow to the USA, the UN has turned down its request to assist Iraqi judges and prosecutors trying Saddam Hussein saying the Special Tribunal is empowered to impose death penalty opposed by it and the court’s rules also “fails to meet the minimum standards of justice”.
UN spokesman Mr Stephane Dujarric said Secretary General Mr Kofi Annan maintains that “UN officials should not be directly involved in extending assistance to any court or tribunal that is empowered to impose the death penalty”. “The Tribunal’s rules fail to meet the minimum standards of justice,” Mr Dujarric was quoted as saying by the Washington Post.
“The Bush administration appealed to UN war crimes tribunal to send some judges and prosecutors to a training conference in London for members of the Iraqi tribunal. But Mr Annan’s office sent the court’s chief prosecutor, Ms Carla Del Ponte, a letter barring her staff from attending the conference, which ended Monday.”
The Washington Post said; “The decision was a blow to the USA and Iraq’s interim government which had hoped that a UN imprimatur on the court’s activities would lead to greater international credibility.”

I think the UN does not want the USA and the Iraq interim government to succeed. It would show that the UN is irrelevant and/or ineffective.

Just a thought. Why can't we evict this useless organization out of the United States and let Kofi Annan set up his gogus club in Baghdad? And let France and Germany pay the bills that the U.S. has done for too many years!

I have no problem with evicting the Unamerican Nations.
They should have been kicked out during the Eisenhower administration.
While were at it, every one of those crooked diplomats should be rounded up and jailed until their traffic and parking tickets are paid.

Maybe it has something to do with that ancient proverb: "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer." Wink

The UN cannot afford to be involved in the trial of Saddam.
Remember he is the number ONE person in the world with
REAL BLACKMAIL on a majority of the primary members!!

It is in their OWN BEST INTEREST that he NOT be successfully
prosecuted!

The lid will come off sooner or later, however it will give them
time to find the sacrifical GOATS!!

How disgusting!!!

While I am at it;have you noticed when a British citizen is
kidnapped the MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN BRITAIN goes into
negotiation for them???
When it is AN AMERICAN THE HUGE MUSLIM CLERGY/COMMUNITY
IS SILENT???

Ughhh.

Make it a prayerful day.
