Recently, letters have been showing up in our local newspaper from old-time, dyed in the wool Democrats expressing sadness and frustration over what's become of their party. In the manner of Senator Zell Miller, they have realized that their party has left them behind and appeared anew with a bizarre and foreign face.
Who knows if they can really suck it up and vote for Bush. Alabama Democrats seem to have a cradle-to-grave loyalty. But if anything can sway them it will be the image from Philadelphia today - the fact that the best their party can come up with is a sociopathic, impeached former president introducing a traitor who can't even say "Good Morning" without it being a lie.
It's encouraging.

Maybe they can at least not vote for Kerry.
Hang in there, honorable Dems. You'll have to rebuild your party, but so will the Republicans, if Bush doesn't start looking a lot more conservative on borders, spending, and some other things. There's a good chance Billary will be able to figure out how to appeal to most of the disgruntled by '08. Meanwhile, there isn't really enough money for all the social programs you might like to see anyway. Maybe after the war. At least if we don't have Kerry in office, there will eventually be an "after". |
