I think the deal is that their exit polling doesn't quit agree with the precinct reports. They are reluctant because of the problems in 2000.

I don't remember is the Richmond area comes in late or not. That is a DEM stronghold, but the rural areas are strong republican.

Also my rep is up with 78% and the 2nd district with Drake is up 56%. She was a sub for a Republican who dropped out after being outed. The Congressional Republicans spent a lot of money on her and it looks like it paid off.

State Board of Election results:

With 71% of precincts reporting, Bush wins by 54% to 44% !!

The chairman of the state Democratic party has conceded:

“With more than 62,000 volunteers, with our 130 local committees and with an army of energized grassroots activists, we looked the pundits and the naysayers who never bothered to look beneath the surface straight in the face and said, ‘Don’t tell us it can’t be done.’ We mounted a historic campaign in Virginia and we can all be proud of our efforts on behalf of John Kerry, John Edwards and our congressional candidates."

It appears that all of the pro-national defense Republican members of Congress will be re-elected, mostly by huge margins. The open seat, in the heavy military district of Norfolk!!!!, is being won right now by Republican Thelma Drake by 55-44, with 92% of precincts reporting!
