Quote: | Chirac KO's Bush offer
By BRIAN FLYNN
and NIC CECIL
GEORGE Bush yesterday offered an olive branch to hostile European leaders — but was snubbed by the French President.
Referring to divisions over the Iraq war, the re-elected US leader said: “Whatever our past disagreements, we share a common enemy. I will continue to reach out to our partners in the EU.”
Mr Bush also said he will use his new muscle to defeat terrorism. He said: “I earned political capital in the election and I intend to spend it.”
But French President Jacques Chirac — dubbed Le Worm — was doing his best to scupper bridge-building.
He will snub a meeting with Iraqi PM Iyad Allawi in Brussels today. It is a sleight aimed at Mr Bush and Tony Blair, who back Mr Allawi.
Chirac — who tried to stop the war to topple Saddam Hussein — will leave Brussels before the new Iraqi leader arrives.
However Chirac DID find time to visit Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in hospital yesterday.
Meanwhile, Mr Blair was working to heal rifts over Iraq, and flew to Brussels to rally EU leaders.
Last night he called on Europe’s leaders to end their “state of denial” over Mr Bush’s election win.
He told The Times countries against the war must now work with the US.
The PM said: “The election has happened. America has spoken. The rest of the world should listen.
“It is important that America listens to the rest of the world too.
“The fact is that President Bush is there for four years. Some people are in a sort of state of denial.”

I hope he catches brain-death from visiting Arafat. _________________ "We cannot win this election" - John Fraud Kerry 11/3/04

It's way worse than you think, he also came out and said that th EU will now be setting out to build up a counter to the U.S. power! It's ironic to here that he has been nominated for the Nobel peace prize, it is more like a joke. The European relationship will only worse as long as Chirac is allowed to steer their course. |

Remember: It was France that was benefiting from the "Oil for Food" program that allowed France (and Germany et al) to receive "bribe" money as long as Sadam was in power in Iraq.
Explains it all!
Chirac was more than happy to allow the people of Iraq to continue to be torchured as long as he was getting his kickbacks.
We don't need these types as "friends" of America.
We should focus our attention on making (keeping) our friendship with the "New Europe." |

Maybe it's time to start a letter-writing campaign, a la Guardian to Clark County, on behalf of Nicolas Sarkozy, the French Finance Minister, who is a rising star in French conservative politics.
Although he gives lip-service to Chirac, he is known to be seeking the French presidency for himself in 2007, and he seems to be much more friendly to the United States than most French politicians--even the French press has started calling him "L'Americain". _________________ The traitor will crater! |

If we can produce with out a doubt that France was on the take, giving comfort to terrorists we need our government to call a spade a spade and then let the cards fall where they may. It would not take much to shame the backstabbers and pull the blanket off the worlds eyes. |

When do we require the EU have one vote like the US at the UN? _________________ I was going to become an anarchist, but they had too many rules. |

The lines are drawn and it will only get worse. Alliances are forming and it is us vs them. Has been. Frankly, I don't see the US and the EU ever being allies. The US is the only single superpower left. It is gonna be rough folks. CTW |

Chirac is gradually finding himself on the outside looking in. His anti-American and Anti-Semitic stance has not gone unnoticed and others are noticing his actions. My bet is that the French will soon reject him and his bleeding heart liberalism. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

The EU was formed to try to counter the U.S. economy. Individually Europe can not hope to compete with us, so they decided to try to combine there economies into one. Only problem is with the socialistic goverments of France and Germany they are hurting the EU. I believe that the EU will eventually disolve since other countries with desent economies will get sick of carrying the load with one with poor economies.
I work with a German imigrant that told me Germany is having alot of problems with their economy with all the social programs. Also that their is still alot of hard feelings between East and West Germans over attitudes. |
