I've been a life member since 1993. Since I move a lot I've never not been post 14000 (at large) what do I need to do when I settle down in one place? to change it?

Anyone from Pittsfield, MA? What's a good and active VFW post?

Its really very simple, once you find the post which you like to join, give them a call, they will ask you to fill out a transfer form, and thats all there is to it......

I am disappointed in the VFW for even allowing Kerry to be there. I would probably have been escorted from the room as I would have been asking Kerry to tell the truth about Vietnam and I would have been asking to release all of his records.

I've never joined the vet groups, other than DAV in 1984. A co-worker has been encouraging me to join the VFW. However, when he told me how many members were supporting Kerry locally and seeing his "polite" reception, I decided to withold joining just yet.

I still remember when they didn't even want us.

I've never joined because I wasn't welcomed upon return from SEA, either. Until their membership began to decline. Rolling Eyes
I was not impressed by the way they treated Kerry, I expected complete silence, or a walkout, and I didn't see anything of the sort. I take that to mean I'm still not welcome, so sorry guys, decline to zero in my opinion.

I am a former commander of VFW Post 4542 in Spring Lake, NC. I was the youngest commander (30 years old) and the first non-WWII, Korea, Vietnam veteran to serve in that position. I must admit I ran into a lot of parochial sentiment from my comrades. Everything from my "wars" did not count to I was to young, dare I say, unfit to command a post because of my age. The VFW desperately needs youth. Not to run out the "ol guys" but to keep the organization alive! I have been a qualified member since 93 and have called many different posts home (I am still active duty). That said, every post has had its problems but at the same time each post has enriched me in ways that can not be measured. The VFW is not a political organization and I would encourage you to give a shot. Always remember they/we are a community centered organization and veterans advocate first....politics are mostly reserved for the canteen (bar). Feel free to ask any questions you want about the VFW. I would be happy to help you along....

DAV life member, VFW member since 69, Chaplain-3rd term American Legion, 40/8 member.

I am still astounded by the "Kool Aid Drinkers" that support Kerry.

Only us "Die-hard Combat Vets", seem to see through his BS...

Wonder why....
